Description

BIOVIA Workbook uses a third-party component called SpreadsheetGear for use in its Spreadsheet Section. Recently a discrepancy was found between how SpreadsheetGear implements the Round function compared to Microsoft Excel related to order of addition and single-precision floating point logic.

This issue manifests itself when the Round function contains another formula like the average of a series of values. In one particular case, the average of a series was found to be 96.35, however, Round(Average(A1:AX),1) resulted in 96.3.

Resolution

SpreadsheetGear has addressed this issue in the most recent version of their software as follows:

-Improved rounding of numbers to be more like Excel in edge conditions for certain ranges of numbers.

This issue has been logged by BIOVIA as NBK-30785, and has been fixed in the Spreadsheet2 Section of BIOVIA Workbook 2019 SP1.

BIOVIA will release a diagnostic tool that can help customers determine if any of their existing documents are affected by this issue sometime after the November, 2019 release of Workbook v2020.

Customers should be aware of the fact that SpreadsheetGear calculations are not 100% equivalent to Microsoft Excel functions in all cases. Care should be used when using the Spreadsheet section for calculations that require Validation.
