T20-2016: Release of Pipeline Pilot 2016 HF2

A defect has been identified in BIOVIA Pipeline Pilot 2016 HF1 for Windows servers where a mismatch in Pipeline Pilot package version numbers causes the VBScript (on Server) component to fail to find the ppCom.dll library. This causes the VBScript (on Server) component to fail with the following error:

Failed to create the scripting class SciTegic.ActiveXScriptSite1010004741 for the Windows Scripting Engine. Please ask your administrator to re-register the COM scripting library on the server. In the <install>\bin folder, type 'regsvr ppCOM.dll'

Affected protocols most typically employ VBScript (on Server) to automate Microsoft Office. Other affected components include:

Excel Writer
Excel Reader (on Server)
Accord for Excel 6.1 Reader
Isis for Excel Reader (on Server)
PRISM Dose Response Fit (VB Script)
JMP Custom Script – (if “Run JMP On” is set to “Server”)

All of these are deprecated with the exception of the JMP Custom Script prototype. Specifically for Excel file handling, note that the newer “Cross Platform” versions have replaced the affected components some time ago, and the Excel Report Writer is another authoring option.
In very rare cases, Text Analytics protocols may invoke the PDF Reader or TIFF (OCR) Reader (Windows Only) in a way that uses VBScript (on Server) and thus is affected by this defect.

Finally, there may be older “community” components such as the Excel Structure Writer still in use which use VBScript (on Server). In many cases, components such as this can now be replaced with newer technologies.
Linux servers are not affected. Also, client-side VBScript and COM automation are not affected.
Resolution:
BIOVIA Pipeline Pilot 2016 HF2 corrects the version of the Generic package,fixing the defect . This hotfix is delivered as a patch installer, which also includes the changes in Pipeline Pilot 2016 HF1. It can be applied to Pipeline Pilot 2016 subsequent to or instead of Pipeline Pilot 2016 HF1. Please see the Product Release Document, available from the BIOVIA Download Center, for further details.

Additional Notes

When running the HF2 patch installer, choose the Add/Remove Products option.
To confirm installation, login to the Administration Portal, navigate to Reports->Installed Packages, and check that the BIOVIA/core and BIOVIA/generic packages are both 16.1.1.5.
