T14-2017 Notification regarding all supported versions of BIOVIA Registration (Biological and Chemical)

Links to File Attachments are Lost on Update (REG-19000)

Dear Registration customer,

We have been made aware of a problem affecting file attachments that are associated with records that we would like to bring to your attention.

When a record that includes a file attachment is edited, the association between the attachment and that record is broken (regardless of whether the file attachments is actually edited), making it impossible for the user to subsequently retrieve the attachment. The attachment itself is not corrupted or lost and remains safely stored in the database. However, because the link to the attachment is lost, it can no longer be successfully retrieved. This will only be apparent to users when opening the attachment, for which the content will apparently have disappeared.

Attachments stored as part of a record that has not been edited after the attachment was added are not affected by this issue.

Resolution:
BIOVIA has released a Hot Fix to resolve the underlying problem. Tooling to identify affected records and repair them is available. Customers believing to be affected please contact support.

If you have not applied the HF resolving this, BIOVIA recommends that Registration users:

do not edit records that contain attachments until this issue has been resolved
make a note of any broken links that are encountered so that they can be checked after applying the repair tool

We recommend this Hot Fix for all customers who are using BIOVIA Biological Registration or BIOVIA Chemical Registration 4.X and higher.
