T12-2017 BIOVIA Foundation 2017 R2 Does Not Accept USERDOMAIN Names (Netbios Domain Names)

BIOVIA Foundation allows administrators to create a User Directory by specifying a USERDOMAIN name (netbios domain name), but when the user logs in the first time, then the specified domain name changes to the USERDNSDOMAIN. This user is then correctly synchronized to Workbook and the user can login. However, this is a new user in workbook because the existing Workbook user is associated to the USERDOMAIN and not to the USERDNSDOMAIN.

To verify if you will encounter this problem, follow the steps below.

1. Login to a Workbook client computer.
2. Open a command prompt and type "set"
3. In the valuses returned, check for the USERDNSDOMAIN and the USERDOMAIN.

If the USERDOMAIN is a subset of the USERDNSDOMAIN, you will not encounter the problem of duplicate users.  For example,

Resolution:
Perform these tasks only if the USERDOMAIN is not a subset of the USERDNSDOMAIN.

If you are upgrading from a previous version of Workbook to 2017 R2 and you are already using Foundation for authentication, the following steps will allow you to upgrade to BIOVIA Foundation 2017 R2 and Workbook 2017 R2 and not create duplicate users.  As always, make careful and tested backups before doing any upgrades.
1) Run the installer for BIOVIA Foundation 2017 R2 and choose to upgrade the existing BIOVIA Foundation installation.  Do not upgrade Workbook yet.
2) In the BIOVIA Foundation 2017 R2 "Admin & Settings" create a User Directory.  When you create a User Directory, it will create a domain using the fully qualified domain name.
3) During the Foundation upgrade, users authenticated by the domain, also called directory users, will have additional empty fields added to their profile.  Update these directory users to have a domain that matches the fully qualified domain name of the user directory created in Step 2.  You do not need to fill in the User Directory of the users.
4) Test the users by logging into BIOVIA Foundation as that user.  They should be able to log in.  Note the User Directory for the user should now be populated.
5) Finally, upgrade Workbook to 2017 R2.  The users should be able to log in and have access to their data created before the upgrade.

If you are upgrading from a previous version of Workbook to 2017 R2 and you are already using Foundation for authentication, the following steps will allow you to upgrade to BIOVIA Foundation 2017 R2 and Workbook 2017 R2 and not create duplicate users.
