T10-2018: Windows custom display scaling higher than 100% can cause incorrectly scaled BIOVIA Draw OLE objects

Background
Windows 10 Microsoft supports modern high resolution displays with enhanced scaling functionality. For multi-display set ups, each display can be configured independently. Additionally, connecting or disconnecting display devices can dynamically change the scaling without user interaction.



BIOVIA Draw currently exhibits limitations on machines configured with custom display scaling. In particular, UI fonts may appear blurry, button text cropped and, most seriously, Draw OLE objects pasted into MS Word or PowerPoint are scaled incorrectly:

BIOVIA development is currently investigating the issue. Until a product-side solution is provided, BIOVIA Draw end users may apply the following workaround:

One possible resolution for the blurry font appearance as well as the OLE object scaling problem is to reconfigure the display scaling behavior of the BIOVIA Draw application: Right-click the icon for the BIOVIA Draw executable or shortcut and choose Properties from the menu. When the Properties screen appears, click the Compatibility tab and check the Override high DPI scaling behavior option:



Make sure that Application is selected in the corresponding drop-down menu.
 

• Font sizes of atom labels and text are enlarged. Consider changing default font sizes.
• Draw UI icons are smaller than normal. Use a larger button size. (Options > Button Size)
• Generated images (save as image) are enlarged.
• Structure box for the SDFile Utility is reduced in size.
