T03-2016 BIOVIA Workbook and Licensing of 3rd Party Software Libraries

The BIOVIA ELN/Workbook client application is comprised of a number of 3rd-party software
libraries (“controls” or “widgets”) that it uses to perform its intended actions (e.g., TextOne
“TXText Control” for the text section, SpreadsheetGear.dll, etc.). BIOVIA has the right to
redistribute these libraries, and customers do not need to purchase licenses to these 3rd party
controls for regular use of the product.

Resolution:
BIOVIA would like to reiterate that none of the documented functions in the BIOVIA
Workbook/ELN SDK rely on these 3rd party libraries. As long as customers restrict their usage
of the SDK to the documented functionality of the SDK, they are not required to purchase 3rd
party licenses such as SpreadsheetGear. If a customer wishes to configure or customize
BIOVIA ELN/Workbook using low-level functionality provided by 3rd-party libraries such as
SpreadsheetGear or TXText in ways that are not supported through the application or through
the SDK, they may need to purchase licenses from the 3rd party vendors of these libraries and
should contact the vendor of the relevant component(s) directly to verify any licensing
requirements or restrictions.

As a result of a recent review of required libraries and their versions, the SDK installer has been
updated to reflect latest third-party files that are required.
The Workbook 2016 SDK includes the latest third-party files. Updated versions of the SDK for
6.8 will be posted to the Download Center by January 15th, 2016.
