An issue has been found that affects customers upgrading to Notebook 2026 / 2026 HF1 from a version prior to 2025, using Oracle database. A change in the Notebook database in 2026 release causes the failure of a Data Archive upgrade script introduced in BIOVIA Notebook 2025 Golden.

Background
An issue has been found that affects customers upgrading to Notebook 2026 / 2026 HF1 from a version prior to 2025, using Oracle database. A change in the Notebook database in 2026 release causes the failure of a Data Archive upgrade script introduced in BIOVIA Notebook 2025 Golden.
This needs to be corrected by the manual steps herein, otherwise existing Data Archive zones will not be converted to projects and users may not be able to access other users’ data packages as intended.
Customers upgrading to Notebook 2026 / 2026 HF1 from 2025 or 2025 SP1 versions are not affected by this issue.
Solution
Scenario A: Upgrade not yet run
If you are reading this before running the Notebook upgrade to 2026 / 2026 HF1 from a version prior to 2025, using Oracle database, then follow the steps below:
- Extract the Notebook 2026 / 2026 HF1 installation files from the distribution zip file, according to the instructions in the upgrade guide.
- Copy to the attached file 4_Project_and_Acls.sql to the subdirectory
Databases\Oracle_DataArchive\Upgrade Oracle\1.00070\4-Data
of the Notebook installation files, replacing the existing file with the same name. - Run the upgrade according to the upgrade guide.
Scenario B: Upgrade already run
If the upgrade to Notebook 2026 / 2026 HF1 from a version prior to 2025, using Oracle database, was already attempted, then follow the steps below:
- Open the ElnUpgrader log file in the ElnUpgrader directory in a text editor.
- Search for 4_Project_and_Acls.sql (note the underscore _ characters), to verify that you find an error message containing:
“Error installing: 1.00070\4-Data\4_Project_and_Acls.sql. Exception: ORA-00904:…” - If you did not find a matching error message, then review the prerequisites in the beginning of this document to see if the fix is applicable. If it is, then do not proceed with the steps below but instead contact support for assistance with troubleshooting.
- When you have confirmed the error, keep following the steps below to repair the Data Archive database.
- Copy to the attached file 4_Project_and_Acls.sql to the subdirectory
Databases\Oracle_DataArchive\Upgrade Oracle\1.00070\4-Data
of the Notebook installation files, replacing the existing file with the same name. - Start Oracle SQL/Developer, connect to the Oracle database as user DATAARCHIVE.
- In SQL/Developer, open the file
Databases\Oracle_DataArchive\Upgrade Oracle\1.00070\4-Data\4_Project_and_Acls.sql
and execute it as script (F5 key).
If you have replaced the file correctly in step 5 above, it now runs without error. - In SQL/Developer, open the file
Databases\Oracle_DataArchive\Upgrade Oracle\1.00070\4-Data\5_ProjectReference.sql
and execute it as script (F5 key).
Verify that no errors are reported in the script output panel.
Steps to verify
- Log in to Notebook web client as a user with permission to use Data Archive.
- Go to Data Archive, create a new package.
- In the project drop-down, select a project.
Initially, the only projects to choose from are the ones created during the upgrade, corresponding to the Data Archive zones used in previous versions. - If you were able to select a project, you have successfully verified the database repair.
If not, please contact support for assistance with troubleshooting.
Notes
The problem will be fixed in Notebook 2026 SP1, so this note does not apply when upgrading to 2026 SP1 or later.
