(SIMULIA Equipment Engineering) Equipment Operating Performance

Advancing HVAC technology is central to cutting energy waste, improving system reliability, and maintaining safe, comfortable indoor environments. Modern HVAC systems are expected to meet multiple, often competing, demands. They must safeguard air quality in the face of challenges such as pandemics and aerosol contamination, while delivering high levels of air cleanliness. At the same time, they are required to operate efficiently without compromising thermal comfort, and to do so quietly, minimizing noise that can affect occupant well-being and productivity.

SIMULIA enables smarter HVAC design through advanced simulation solutions. Powered by the [**3D**EXPERIENCE platform](/3dexperience "The 3DEXPERIENCE platform") and its BIM capabilities, HVAC systems can be engineered and optimized for maximum aerosol filtration, uniform and reliable thermal comfort, and minimal operational noise.

Components & Machinery

Bearings and gears are fundamental components. Failure of any will result in catastrophic failure of entire systems. Our efficient and accurate simulation-driven design process help ensure proper performance and durability to minimize risk of failure. How such components interface will also play a key role in their performance and in their life expectancy. Our solutions allow engineers to digitally assemble components together quickly, and determine the best design given durability and performance requirements.

(SIMULIA Equipment Engineering FAQ) FAQs about Equipment Engineering

Can simulation help with designing quieter and efficient HVAC?

Yes, simulation can help achieve this both for the development and design of HVAC components mainly fans in the design phase and also through assessing their performance in the installed phase, for example when they are integrated in a building. Aeroacoustic performance can be assessed to measure the sound levels of the fan through full 3D simulations performed with our computational fluid dynamics (CFD) solver. HVAC system with its components integrated in a building can be modelled for a given set of operating conditions using our 1D system modeling tools coupled with 3D CFD solver.

Traditional CFD requires a large amount of GPU RAM memory to run a GPU computation. What is the minimum required GPU RAM to run this application?

- Our Lattice Boltzmann Method technology keeps memory consumption very low, even for complex CFD applications.
- For Gearbox Lubrication, you can obtain a high-fidelity and accurate result by using any GPU card that has 16 GB RAM or more.

How Simulia solutions ensure durability and performance of components like gear, bushes, bearings?

Simulia Abaqus solution enables physical simulation engineers to evaluate the interaction between critical components, nonlinear behavior of material and boundary conditions, allowing the design optimization on most real scenarios, reducing risks of failure and extend component life.
