Basics of Scripting in Abaqus

Course Logistics

Take advantage of this live online course right from your desk. Each day of the class will begin with a lecture session. After the lecture, workshop sessions are conducted offline with technical support provided by hosting office via phone and email. Some hosting offices also allow for in-person attendance.

Course Objective

The objective of this seminar is to provide an introductory overview of the Abaqus Scripting Interface and Python’s syntax. In this class you will be presented with the reason and need for scripting with Abaqus, some Python scripting basics, as well as the Python interface with Abaqus.

Topics that will be covered include:

  • Understand Python’s applicability as a powerful scripting language for a wide variety of tasks
  • Learn about some basics about the Python scripting language
  • Understand and explore the Abaqus object model
  • Read and write data from/to the .cae and .odb files
  • Build simple GUI plug-ins using the Really Simple GUI (RSG) framework

What is Included

We believe every Abaqus user should be familiar with the ASI. Productivity gains can be realized at many levels; from simple scripts that automate tedious tasks to large applications with custom user interfaces. This course is recommended for all Abaqus users who wish to improve their productivity using scripting.

Course Overview 

Electronic copies of the training notes will be provided to each registrant for their personal use. Every registrant will also receive access to download the Abaqus Student Edition. No additional Abaqus licenses will be provided, so to ensure that you can perform all the workshops fully you will need access to a licensed copy of Abaqus.
