News: Transparency and real-time coordination for Ternium-Siderar
August 2, 2012 - Ternium-Siderar (Siderar), the most important steel flat products company in Argentina, has chosen Quintiq and Siemens Metal Technologies for its San Nicolas plant to ensure transparency and real-time coordination of tasks between all areas, while giving planners the opportunity to choose the best scenarios.
The APS solution, based on theQuintiq Scheduler Software and Siemens Metal Technologies, is scheduled to commence by mid-2012. The solution will enable Siderar to modify and adjust its models and parameters to optimal results and benefit from the advantages of SIEMENS' Libraries for steel industries.
In the interim, Siderar has been working on increasing its production capacity with the installation of a second caster machine and other new equipment in the steel shop. Optimizing on this new capacity, a short-term scheduler is the key to coordinate all the tasks in the steel shop, satisfying production plan requirements.
The solution will effectively coordinate and improve production ranging from Siderar's blast furnaces right up to the caster machines. In addition, it will support the company's business management in making decisions based on reliable data, by combining the current Siderar reporting system together with the new APS solution, KPIs and other systems data to generate desired reports. In doing this, the system will provide the basis for continuous improvements along the entire production chain.
Arthur Torsy, Business Unit Director (Metals) at Quintiq, says: "We are very pleased with the addition of Siderar to our growing list of customers in the steel industry. Equally, we are pleased to increase our footprint in the South American market as it reaffirms both our commitment towards the steel industry and the South American market. Furthermore, we look forward to helping Siderar achieve considerable results through more efficient planning and by sustaining their competitive advantage. By making sure that Siderar will be pleased with Quintiq as their partner, we will establish again our position as leading Advanced Planning and Scheduling solution provider for the steel industry."
