Product Overview

The DELMIA Digital Process for Manufacturing (DPM) Machining Process Planner is a manufacturing process planning tool that offers a collaborative environment for designing, planning, verifying, managing, and documenting machining processes. It is designed to seamlessly integrate product engineering and process planning, thereby reducing the lead time from concept to production.

Engineers in this domain are required to generate 2D drawings for each machined feature. Sometimes, hundreds of 2D drawings are generated for a single part. Keeping these drawings updated with changes made by the Design Engineers is a very difficult task. DPM Machining creates 3D geometry (In-Process Models) and associates it with 2D drawings. Changes to the product design and process plan are automatically reflected in the In-Process Model and the associated 2D drawings, which are then dispersed throughout the organization, greatly enhancing employee productivity and final product accuracy.

Product Highlights

DPM Machining Process Planner offers the following functions:

  • Creates machining features based on V5 design features
  • Creates and sequences machining operations based on best practices and knowledge ware
  • Creates and manages precedence between operations
  • Generates 3D in-process models for each machining operation
  • Provides framework for in-process tolerances
  • Generates associative 2D drawings or process sheets from the in-process models
  • Provides concurrent engineering through the PPR Hub
  • Integrates with other V5 products

Product Key Customer Benefits

Creates machining features based on V5 design features...
DPM Machining provides a mechanism for creating a list of machining features from a design part. This list of machining features provides the process planner with a "to-do" list that depicts which elements of the product need to be considered and accounted for when creating the machining process plan. This helps reduce the process planning time while minimize the risk of "missing" necessary manufacturing operations.

Creates and sequences machining operations based on best practices and knowledge ware ...
DPM Machining Process Planner provides the ability to create machining operations and automatically sequence them in the proper order using the company's knowledge database. Furthermore, users are able to create and utilize a catalog of machining best practices when associating operations with machining features.

Creates and manages precedence between operations...
In this manufacturing domain, certain machining operations must precede others. For example, spot drilling must precede a hole drilling operation. DPM Machining provides a mechanism for automatically creating and managing these types of direct and indirect precedence constraints ensuring the proper order of operations. Additionally, when re-sequencing the order of operations, DPM Machining honors these constraints and notifies the user in the event of a violation.

Generates 3D in-process models...
The in-process model represents the state of the product at each step in the machining process. It is represented as a 3D geometry that reflects the results of the machining operations. This model allows the user to visually verify that the machining operations have been defined accurately and that their sequence is correct. This 3D model can be automatically re-generated when there are changes in the product design, machining parameters or sequence of the machining operations.

Provides framework for in-process tolerances...
Provides users with a 3D model that reflects the status of the product after each machining operation. This state of the model can be used to specify in-process manufacturing tolerances. This information is used extensively by Quality Engineers and Shop Floor Personnel in downstream application and deliverables. By associating this information EARLY with the machining features and the process plan, DPM Machining helps facilitate communication and concurrent engineering while minimizing risk.

Generates associative 2D drawings or process sheets from 3D geometry...
Engineers in this domain are required to generate 2D drawings of the in-process model after each step of machining. Sometimes, hundreds of 2D drawings are generated for a single part. Keeping these drawings updated with changes made by the Design Engineers is a very difficult task. DPM Machining Process Planner extracts 2D drawings from the 3D in-process models of parts and assemblies, based on the process plan. The in-process model is generated automatically in DPM Machining, based on the design geometry and process plan. The in-process model is associated to the design model in the process plan. The 2D drawing is then associated to the in-process model. Any design or process change will automatically propagate to the in-process models and any referred drawing and downstream application.

Integrates with other V5 products...
DPM Machining shares the common Product, Process and Resource (PPR) model. Therefore, V5 design models are, by default, compatible with DPM Machining and other V5 solutions. Processes generated in DPM Machining can be utilized by manufacturing engineers using V5 CATIA Manufacturing while generating tool path programs. The in-process models generated in DPM Machining may be measured in Inspection. Changes made to the process plan can be automatically propagated downstream.

Prerequisites
DELMIA DPM Machining Process Planner requires DELMIA Object Manager, DPM Process and Resource Definition, and NC Manufacturing Review.
