Product Overview

ENOVIA EBOM Product Definition (PDC) provides functionalities for both marketing-oriented and technical-oriented users. Marketing-oriented product planners can take advantage of the product class editor to define product family hierarchy. Technical-oriented design managers can utilize the component editor and zone editor to define a product "work organization" that is based on components (engine, body, electrical, etc) or zones (geometrical areas in a digital mock-up), a practice that is common in many manufacturing industries.

Product family structure and product breakdowns can be defined prior to doing any product design, so that overall functions and features can be determined and organised at the start of the project. Documents such as specifications, marketing recommendations, cost estimates, etc. can be associated to any of the objects in the breakdown so that, very early in the project, the product definition becomes the focal point for all the data needed for development. Similar facilities can be used to organise and define requirements, manufacturing processes, resources and technical publications.

Product Highlights

  • Stores both marketing and technical aspects of product definition in a single virtual product development system
  • A tool for marketing-oriented product planners to identify product family hierarchies
  • Helps technical-oriented design managers to define a product work organization that is based on components or zones
  • Promotes component commonality by defining product component structure templates that can be applied across multiple products

Product Key Customer Benefits

  • Satisfy market demand without increasing manufacturing complexity... store both marketing and technical aspects of product definition in a single virtual product development system to provide manufacturing companies with flexibility to propose a large spectrum of products to satisfy market demand without increasing manufacturing complexity.

  • Early product planning define a company's product lines and work organizations in early design phases when modifications are less costly.A product planner can segment a product by requirements such as electrical, mechanical or even cost factors prior to the creation or association of any specific geometry.

  • Industry-oriented organizational streamlining align product work organization according to the common practice in each industry. An automotive manufacturer normally organizes a product according to its components (engine, body, electrical, etc). An aerospace or a shipbuilding manufacturer normally organizes a product according to zones (specific geometrical areas in a digital mock-up).Parts and assemblies managed by ENOVIA can be easily organized or viewed according to how a manufacturing company chooses to organize a product "work breakdown" structure.

  • "Flexible platform" practice use common components across as many products and product variants as possible in order to reduce manufacturing cost. A base "platform" or a set of basic components can be defined for use across several products or models. For example, a particular chassis can be used in several car models or brands. The "generic" product component (GCo) functionality helps realize this practice.
