The Department of Energy (DOE) is responsible for executing some of the nation's most complex technology missions in support of the nation’s energy and security goals. Dassault Systèmes solutions support these challenges with tools designed for managing complex and advanced technology programs, especially for improving operational efficiency and cost savings, contract and project management, science and technology portfolio management, engineering design and change management, and information / cyber security. Dassault Systèmes modeling and simulation tools are already used extensively across the Government Research Laboratories, DOE Energy and Nuclear laboratories, and Government high performance computing centers covering multi-physics modeling, multi-domain optimization, and large scale statistical model optimization. Due to the complex systems being modeled within the DoE and the reduced availability of physical testing, leading engineers and scientists are using Dassault Systèmes simulation and modeling tools to push technological boundaries to deliver state-of-the-art simulations, rapidly and efficiently, while meeting stringent industry and governmental regulations. As these simulations grow in complexity they also grow in size, requiring CAE tools such as Abaqus that can process hundreds of millions of non-linear equations, while efficiently running on hundreds of computer processors, to enable fast and reliable solutions. Inherent in these complex problems is uncertainty and variability in the input parameters. Through the use of Isight, DoE researchers are studying the sensitivity of designs to these variables to deliver optimized and robust designs more rapidly and efficiently than ever. The result of these design simulations is an increasing amount of data which can be documented, stored, and is easily accessible to hundreds of users throughout the DoE complex using Dassault Systèmes’ Simulation Lifecycle Management (SLM) solution. Together, the Dassault Systèmes simulation and modeling tools—Abaqus, Isight, and SLM—provide technologies to develop, optimize, and protect the DoE’s valuable intellectual property enabling more efficient, robust, and cost-effective solutions.
