Product Overview

CATIA - Waveguide Diagrams 2 (WGD) Product creates and manages logical schematics of waveguide systems. CATIA - Waveguide Diagrams 2 (WGD) is an intelligent diagram application enabling users to create and validate waveguide logical designs more productively. When used with the CATIA - Waveguide Design 2 (WAV) application, users can automatically input specification data captured in the diagram and use it to automate equipment placement, the selection of 3D components from catalogs, check waveguide schematic lines for completion, query parts and check that all components are functionally and physically correct. CATIA - Waveguide Diagrams 2 (WGD) provides general diagramming tools with industry standard symbols for defining all components, connections and sub-assemblies. Diagramming functions provide line, equipment and component definition, graphic editing, specification entry, quick copy, and off-page connectors for managing large diagrams. Customization tools adapt CATIA - Waveguide Diagrams 2 (WGD) to company graphic standards and project naming conventions.

Product Highlights

  • Creation and management of waveguide schematics including waveguide lines, equipment, components and all line annotations
  • Line routing and connectivity management. Off sheet connectors link lines that span multiple graphic diagrams
  • Generation of waveguide component IDs based on user defined rules or project standards
  • Query and analysis of diagrams, lines and all components
  • Generation of reports based on extractions from the diagram (e.g., BOM)
  • Creation of intelligent objects using "smart" component build facility and catalog tools

Product Key Customer Benefits

Waveguides are electro-mechanical devices used to transmit and receive communication microwave signals. Waveguides are complex components in military Command, Control and Communications (C3) systems found aboard ships and aircraft. They are also used telephone, satellite and other high-speed communication systems.
Integration between 2D diagrams and 3D detailed designs... Furthermore, users of CATIA - Waveguide Design (WAV) can seamlessly access WGD specifications and drive their 3D design by using waveguide diagrams to automate component selection from catalogs, equipment placement or to annotate components once they are placed in the design. CATIA - Waveguide Diagrams 2 (WGD) ensures that the design intent is captured at the conceptual design phases. Users benefit from the reuse of data and functions that check for design consistency and completeness. The result is increased productivity and error reduction through automation.
Creation and management of intelligent waveguide lines... Designers can create waveguide lines with standard industry attribute information. Additionally, users can define their own attributes to be included on waveguide line definitions. Once a waveguide line is defined, it can be shared across multiple diagram documents to ensure consistency of the design. As components and waveguide functions are created in the diagram, they will be automatically included in the appropriate waveguide line and appropriate attribute information will be propagated to these objects. Users can also import waveguide line definitions to seed their designs. Users benefit from the fact that CATIA - Waveguide Diagrams (WDG) integrates the multi-disciplines needed to specify and design these complex electro-mechanical devices. Electrical and mechanical equipment can thus be specified in one system.
Definition and placement of equipment... A catalog facility is provided to enable users to quickly and easily place equipment objects from a catalog into their design. In addition, designers can create specialized equipment and place them locally in their diagram design.
Placement and/or insertion of intelligent waveguide components... waveguide components can be placed from a catalog using a highly interactive user interface. This user interface includes dynamic design rule checking in order to ensure proper placement of the waveguide components. The placement facility allows placement into free space and insertion into waveguide lines. As components are placed, they automatically inherit information from the appropriate waveguide line. In addition to placement from a catalog, the user can use the placement facility to place new copies of existing components from their design. Using the waveguide diagrams product with its built-in intelligence as a driver for specification-driven 3D waveguide/part placement, you achieve true waveguide diagram to 3D model integration. Diagrams make extensive use of symbols and relatively simple diagrams can represent and make complex systems and layouts understandable. Users benefit from industry standard symbol libraries and tools that offer quick editing and customization of new ones.
Line routing and connectivity management... One can route lines using a highly interactive user interface including dynamic design rule checking to ensure compatible connections. The routing facility provides the user with multiple routing modes including single step, horizontal/vertical, horizontal/vertical/45, and point-to-point routing modes.
Placement and management of off sheet connectors... Users can place off or on sheet connectors to define logical connections within or across documents. Once defined, designers can query these off sheets to understand the list of associated elements or documents. Secondly, the user can request that an associated document be loaded by the system.
Creation and management of intelligent annotations... Designers can create fully associative annotations as well as standard annotations within a diagram. Additionally, these annotations may be positionally linked to properties of objects and automatically updated based on property modification. Single annotations may include standard text and multiple linked attribute values. Designers may create and/or use annotation templates with attribute link information. Also, dynamic annotations with attribute links may be associated to catalog components. These dynamic annotations are then automatically updated upon component placement.
Generation of object IDs based on user defined rules ... Users can define ID rules to specify their company specific naming formats and conventions per objects. In addition, ID rules can be assigned to individual classes of objects. When objects are created in the design document, their ID's will be generated automatically using the user defined ID rules.
Modification of intelligent diagrams... Designers are provided with a set of capabilities to effectively manage the modification of their design. Examples include a highly intuitive network stretch capability, query and modification of object properties, flow direction management, connect/disconnect capabilities, and deletion with automatic line repair. the ability to scale connected components and have the network adjust automatically. In addition, knowledgeware design rules can be used to create and/or manage modifications of the design. To illustrate this, sample rules are provided that modify the graphic representation of objects based on changes to the attribute values.
