Product Overview

ENOVIA Document Management (DMT) enables documents to be managed under a single repository regardless of the vaults' (electronic storage systems) location, which can be anywhere in the network. For added convenience, users are able to perform certain document management functions (check-in/-out, save, etc.) from popular applications (e.g. Microsoft Office applications) and from CAD authoring tools (e.g. CATIA V5).

In ENOVIA VPM, documents are mostly managed in context of a PDM (Product Data Management) system, in which documents are matured independently or along with the part or product that they represent.

Stored documents can be viewed by any user in the enterprise using the documents original editors or using the embedded browser and 2D/3D viewers. CAD documents attached to a product structure can be launched to a single DMU (digital mock-up) session.

What's new?

In this release V5R21 ENOVIA Document Management includes the following enhancements.

  • Rules Based Generation of Derived Formats Allows users to turn off the File Introspection utility for files based on customer-defined rules and based on the attribute values of object types. This provides more control when generating derived formats, allowing users (when necessary) to avoid the generation of large amounts of derived formats in the database. This results in more efficient management of shared IP content optimizing performance, capacity, and scalability.

  • Documentation Link Behavior Allows the display of the latest approved Document Revision for a Document link. This functionality is controlled by the end-user (in the Portal settings), and provides access to the latest approved Documentation Revision rather than requiring users to search through many iterations of the information.

  • Attribute Selection and Ordering for Reporting Provides the ability to generate an Excel report with user-defined attributes for ENOVIA objects such as Product, Part Reference, Part Instance, and Document. Users can select the list and the order of the attributes needed in the report.

  • Where Used Reporting Provides the ability to generate an Excel report with Where Used relationships of ENOVIA objects, such as Product, Part Reference, Part Instance, and Document. Users can send objects to the Reporting Editor to display information in a selected Excel report in an appropriate desired layout.

  • Iteration Management Enhancement Provides the ability to delete document versions that are no longer needed, according to rules defined in IterationRules.xml. This gives database administrators additional means for defining rules for iteration control based on the document maturity of an object. This results in more efficient iteration control, database administration, improved capacity and performance.

  • Increase attributes length for Instance Id and Document extension Allows Instance names (V_instance_ID attribute for VPMItemInstance) to be increased from 40 to 80 characters and allows Document extensions (V_extension attribute of VPMTPDocumentVersion) from 16 to 32 characters. This will improve efficiency by eliminating the need for users to have to go back to the CATIA environment to rename files when receiving error messages regarding truncated filenames. The result is improved usability and user productivity.

Product Highlights

  • Management of enterprise document under a single repository regardless of the vaults' (electronic storage systems) location
  • Ability to manage documents in context of a PDM system, in which documents are managed in relation to parts and products
  • Ability to perform certain document management functions (check-in/-out, save, etc) from popular applications and CATIA V5
  • Document "Full-text" search capability

  • Document linking and classification capabilities
  • Document template management capability
  • File introspection for asynchronous document post processing

Product Key Customer Benefits

  • Enhanced data integrity and intellectual property reuse
All enterprise documents are captured, stored, and controlled under one enterprise repository regardless of the vaults' (electronic storage systems) location, which can be anywhere in the network (multiple vaults are supported). Documents stored in ENOVIA can be viewed by any user in the enterprise using the original editors or using the embedded browser and 2D/3D viewers.

  • Direct check-in and check-out from popular applications
The integrated ODMA (Open Document Management API) feature allows users to perform document management functions such as check-in, check-out, search, view properties, create, modify, etc., directly from any ODMA-compliant applications. Examples of ODMA-compliant applications include but are not limited to Microsoft Office applications, Lotus WordPro, Lotus Freelance, Adobe FrameMaker, Visio, etc. Refer to http://www.infonuovo.com/odma/ for complete ODMA compliant product list and status.

  • Business process support
More than traditional document management capabilities, ENOVIA documents are managed in context of a PDM (Product Data Management) system, in which documents are matured in relation with the part or product that they represent. Additionally, file introspection function is available to allow easy integration of asynchronous document post processing for customers. An example of file introspection is to extract bounding-boxes/spacemaps information from CATIA files to store it in ENOVIA as a separate format attached to the same document.

  • DMU design and review process support
CAD documents attached to a product structure can be launched simultaneously to a single DMU (digital mock-up) session. Engineers can send the product structure to a CATIA V5 session for part detailing. Non-engineers can take advantage of our embedded 2D/3D viewers for light DMU viewing without the need of costly CAD licenses. Lacking from many of our competitors is the integration between document and the EBOM (Engineering Bill of Materials) management.

  • Advanced document functions for the engineers and supervisors
Document linking, document classification, and document template management are some of many engineering focused document functions provided by ENOVIA Document Management.
