ENOVIA EBOM Product Definition (PDC) provides functionalities for both marketing-oriented and technical-oriented users. Marketing-oriented product planners can take advantage of the product class editor to define product family hierarchy. Technical-oriented design managers can utilize the component editor and zone editor to define a product "work organization" that is based on components (engine, body, electrical, etc) or zones (geometrical areas in a digital mock-up), a practice that is common in many manufacturing industries. Product family structure and product breakdowns can be defined prior to doing any product design, so that overall functions and features can be determined and organised at the start of the project. Documents such as specifications, marketing recommendations, cost estimates, etc. can be associated to any of the objects in the breakdown so that, very early in the project, the product definition becomes the focal point for all the data needed for development. Similar facilities can be used to organise and define requirements, manufacturing processes, resources and technical publications. | |
