Clouds you can touch

Modules for scan data processing

In automotive design, the clay model is the starting point for the creation of most surfaces. Whether you start with a clay model of a automotive design study, or you want to refine an existing product, a point cloud created by a 3D scanner is the basis of the geometry you need. ICEM Surf lets you process scan data, and create and visualise surfaces directly from a point cloud very quickly.

The following modules are available:

ICEM Surf Scan Modelling

ICEM Surf Scan Modelling allows the user to efficiently handle dense, ordered, or random point clouds. Whether they are generated by laser digitisers, photo digitisers or other 3D scanners, ICEM Surf works with any major point cloud file format. You can then use this data as a reference for surface creation, or model point clouds/facet data either directly, locally or globally. This function is also known as Virtual Clay Modelling.

ICEM Surf Quick Surfacing

Whenever time-Iines are tight, ICEM Surf Quick Surfacing relieves some of the pressure by enabling you to create surfaces from point clouds, curves or facet data very quickly. User-defined sections and/or curves, together with a facet model, form the basis of the initial quick surface creation. Surfaces generated automatically by Quick Surfacing can be used downstream with software packages that can‘t support facets or don’t need Class-A finished surfaces (e.g. CFD, tooling or packaging analysis, etc). More interactive techniques can also produce near Class A quality very quickly, and standard ICEM Surf functions can then be utilised for surface finishing, as required.
