Model Libraries

Dymola is based on Modelica® and that gives unique access to libraries developed by leading experts around the world. All libraries are fully compatible with each other.

Comprehensive Model Libraries

Modelica Standard Library

The standard library includes basic components and is composed of electrical, rotational and translational mechanics, thermal components and continuous discrete input/output blocks.

MultiBody Library

The MultiBody library provides 3-dimensional mechanical components to model rigid multibody systems, such as robots, satellites, or vehicles. The library provides basic model classes for rigid bodies, joints, forces, measurement and animation elements. Revolute and prismatic joints can be driven with elements from the one-dimensional mechanics Modelica Standard library. This allows easy modeling of bearing friction, brakes, clutches and stops.

PowerTrain Library

The library includes basic to sophisticated components for modeling power trains. The library can be applied to investigate gearshift transition dynamics of an automatic gearbox or drive cycle fuel consumption predictions. It is well suited for real time, hardware-in-the-loop simulation. The PowerTrain Library consists of gearboxes, such as planetary gearboxes, Ravigneaux wheelset, Lepelletier wheelset, Simpson wheelset, differential gearboxes, Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), clutches, driver models, car resistance and control units.

Flexible Bodies Library

The library provides Modelica models to represent flexible bodies such as beams, annular plates with optional thermo-elastic properties and modal bodies that originate from a finite-element (FE) model.

The user can define beam-like structures such as rotor blades by simply parameterizing an analytical model of a straight and homogeneous beam considering two-dimensional bending, torsional and lengthening deformations. The analog approach is also applied to model the bending behavior of annular plates such as an helicopter swash plate. It also supports slide-on-plate nodes that facilitates modeling of sliding contact problems.

The component ModalBody represents flexible bodies of a general geometrical shape. The geometrical and physical properties are defined by a SID (standard input data) file that is generated by an external FE program such as Abaqus. For ModalBody models in real-time environments, the SID-data may be converted into a Modelica package so that external file access is avoided.

Hydraulics Library

The Hydraulics library is a powerful yet simple to use tool for the modeling of hydraulic systems using oil. Applications include machine tools, automatic transmissions, and open or closed circuit drives used in for example in excavators or forklift trucks. The hydraulics library provides models for the modeling of pumps, motors, cylinders, restrictions valves, hydraulic lines, lumped volumes and sensors.

Pneumatics Library

The Pneumatics library provides basic model classes for the modeling of cylinders and motors, valves and nozzles, lumped volumes, lines and sensors.

Smart Electric Drives Library

The SmartElectricDrives Library allows modeling and simulation of an entire electric drive system and is ideal for simulation of hybrid electrical vehicles and new alternative concepts with electrical auxiliaries. All components of the electric drive train, such as energy storages, power electronics, controls and electric machines can be simulated.

Vehicle Dynamics Library

The VehicleDynamics library is used to simulate vehicle dynamics behavior and handling. The library contains components such as tires, driver models, struts, wishbones, and anti-roll linkages suspensions as well as complete front and rear suspensions, e.g. MacPherson, Double Wishbone and MultiLink. There are also predefined chassis such as for a midsized sedan car and a Formula 3 racecar that serve as examples of how the parts can be utilized.

Electric Power Library

Provides a framework for simulation and analysis of electric power systems, both steady state and transient operation. The user can model the complete power plant from the energy source (oil, gas, hydropower or another renewable source such as wind) all the way through generator and power grid to the end consumer.

Engine Dynamics Library

Is used for combustion engine system modeling, simulation and analysis, including the complete gas exchange. It is well suited to represent transient engine response and related engine control. Applications include control design with the purpose of reducing emission transients from the engine, transient exhaust condition modeling for optimum EATS operation conditions, and engine response dynamics. The Engine Dynamics Library utilizes a mean value combustion model for torque, charge flow and exhaust condition modeling.

Hydro Power Library

Provides a framework for modeling and simulation of hydropower plant operation. It enables performance analysis and optimization of the operation of hydropower plants, for example, power plants with multiple reservoirs and multiple turbines in order to maximize the overall efficiency.
The library is suitable for simulation of transient operation such as load rejection to verify that the control system can handle these situations. It can also be used for studying control strategies to cope with the rapid load changes that become more frequent as other renewable, less controllable, sources of energy are increasingly used. Planning of commissioning tests and procedures can be set-up, thereby reducing the risk of unexpected events and minimizing costly tests done on the actual plant.

Thermal Power Library

Provides a framework for modeling of thermal power plant operation including transient operation. Different plant designs and their respective dynamic behavior can be studied already in the concept design phase.  A particular advantage is the ability to simulate dynamic as well as steady-state behavior using the same model. In addition to covering the entire steam cycle, it can be used for the flue gas side and combustion models.

Liquid Cooling Library

Is targeted at liquid cooling system design with compressible or incompressible flow. Applications include engine cooling, battery thermal management, and cooling of power electronics and machines in automotive, industrial equipment and process industries.

Air Conditioning Library

The AirConditioning library is a full-featured model library for refrigeration and A/C cycles with typical working media such as R134a and even CO2. It contains advanced two-phase flow and air handling models for all design phases from conceptual design to control implementation.
