CATIA ICEM Shape Design Expert (IEX) offers an extended tool set which complements the ISH commercial product. This add-on module enables the creation and modeling of aesthetic and ergonomic shapes using advanced global surface modeling and shape modeling capabilities. In addition this product provides specialized Class A and dedicated Industry specific functionality such as Advanced filleting, Create Gap and advanced Analysis capabilities.

  In the world of Explicit and direct surface modeling, users are familiar with the benefits of this capability, but even more so with its disadvantages of not being able modify feature based geometry without returning to the explicit world. With the introduction of Feature modeling, users can now not only direct model feature based geometry, they can maintain the associativity of the input geometry, thus removing the break in workflow.

• Advanced filleting commands

  Extending the filleting capabilities within the CATIA ICEM Shape Design product, the Advanced Fillet, Tri-Tangent Fillet and Corner Fillet capabilities provide a comprehensive set of tools to fulfill the most demanding of filleting shapes.

• Expert Surface creation

  Expert surface modeling capabilities such as Accelerated Surface, Global Flange, Global Blend, Loft etc. complement the ISH surfacing solutions to address the most challenging of shape designs.

• Global Modeling capabilities to morph, reshape, or scale quickly existing shapes

  More often designs are required to be morphed, scaled or reshaped very quickly to either realize a concept proposal or meet a design intent without having to undertake a reworking of the design. CATIA ICEM Shape Design Expert provides Global modeling capabilities to fulfill these requirements.

• Advanced Analysis tools to analyze surface quality

  CATIA ICEM Shape Design Expert provides extended analysis capabilities addressing requirements such as Flat Region, Gap and Leveling and Head Impact analysis. Very often when developing complex surface designs, users are always checking at the geometry component level the accuracy and quality of the surfaces produced. However the task of analyzing at the Part level the component meets the correct design and engineering criteria is often left to other design departments or other applications. For some design analysis tasks this is no longer the case. Using advanced analysis capabilities users can analyze their components for Gaps and Levels to adjacent components, the flatness of a shape to ascertain potential manufacturing issues and the Head Impact analysis to meet Government legislation requirements.

• Industry specific feature to design components gaps

  A key task in the design of components which fit within or are adjacent too another component, is the design of the Gap conditions. Using the Create Gap command, you can as a feature result create geometry to not only simulate the correct gap condition required but also some manufacturing sheetmetal conditions.
