In order to do this, synchronicity between designers is essential in order to save time and be able to reuse 3D tolerance analysis.

Based upon 3D definition, CATIA Tolerancing guarantees consistency between 3D design and 2D tolerances and annotations. Users can create a 3D product from a 2D schematic and apply tolerance and annotation information to a 3D product, which ensures consistency. The 2D layout can be directly created in 3D to define the product and to capture key manufacturing knowledge. Afterwards, users can generate the assembly drawing and the product definition is directly re-usable for manufacturing planners and can propagate downstream systems.

Furthermore, CATIA Tolerancing enables specifications of tolerance and annotations to support international standards, such as the STEP standard.

    2D Layout for 3D Design is the only product on the market that makes it possible for a designer to work in a 3D environment with advanced 2D drafting capabilities during the conceptual phase of a project. Multiple views can be positioned in the 3D environment and the user can also add 2D geometry to the views. Design intent is captured by taking advantage of all normalized dimensions, annotations and dress-up capabilities.

    2D Layout for 3D Design also incorporates powerful tools to export 2D geometry as profiles and planes for fast and associative 3D geometry creation.     Sketch-based part design features (hole, pad, shaft and rib) allow the user to automatically generate the relevant FTA dimensions and tolerances features, making it easy to reuse.
