Product Overview

CATIA - Electrical Wire Routing 2 (EWR) generates electrical wires within the digital mock-up, according to the functional or wiring specifications. The wires are routed according to specifications coming from external electrical CAD systems or the functional definition coming from the CATIA - Electrical Functional Definition (EFD) product. The wires are generated in a bundle network designed with the CATIA Electrical Harness Installation 2 or through a space reservation network defined by CATIA - System Space Reservation 2 (SSR). CATIA - Electrical Wire Routing 2 (EWR) allows users to capture and reuse corporate know-how during the routing process. Analysis capabilities such as bundle content are provided as well as reports about wire routing for harness manufacturing..

Product Highlights

  • Generates the physical wires as the results of routing through functional definition of your electrical system
  • Data exchange with electrical functional or wiring CAD system through CAA API s or XML data format
  • Optimizing wire routing according to company design rules
  • Reports wire routing details for use in harness manufacturing

Product Key Customer Benefits

Routing electrical signal... Electrical wires are created in a bundle that receives a functional signal. Users can specify whether an electrical signal should be routed through a space reservation network (created with CATIA - Systems Space Reservation (SSR) or a bundle network (created with CATIA V4 ELW Electrical Wire Bundle Installation). Users also can specify that an electrical signal be routed in a bundle network created with CATIA - Electrical Harness Installation 2. Routing of a functional signal will generate wires, with the related catalog reference defined in the functional system.

Ability to route wire from external application specifications... Through XML files, users have the ability to import Wire properties and "from-to" connectivity into their application, facilitating productive routing from external applications. Moreover, routing can be driven by legacy databases through the CAA Interface.

Optimizing wire route... Users can optimize the wire route according to company design rules criteria, such as shortest wire route, multiple extremities signals, and simultaneous signals in compliance with priority order. In addition, users can manage areas in the pathway, as well as separations code and automatic positioning at wire forks. For signals going through several bundles, each wire is created in the appropriate bundle according to its route. To create the wire in the appropriate bundle, users must pre-define how geometric harnesses are associated with wire bundles.

Define electrical wires on bundle segments... Users can route an electrical wire by defining one or several bundle segments loaded within CATIA V5. The diameter and the minimum bend radius of the bundle segment are automatically computed according to the content (wires). Users also can route wires inside V4 harnesses created with Electrical Wire Bundle Installation.

Define electrical routes on pathways... A signal can be routed on a pathway network created with CATIA - Systems Space Reservation (SSR).

Access electrical wire definition from catalogs... Users can assign wire properties automatically or manually from electrical catalogs (catalog available in CATIA - Electrical Library 2 (ELB)).

Select wire termination from catalog... The electrical contact (wire termination) is defined from the catalog.
/ Assign, manage and optimize electrical location... The system computes the electrical location with wire route definition.

Split and merge electrical wire connections... The system splits and merges wire connections. The merge implies automatic redefinition of the new wire connection, which connects all the wires to a given wire connection.

Place internal splices in the harness to connect wires... By a simple drag and drop of a splice onto a wire connection, users can replace a wire connection with a splice.

Define and assign interconnections between wires and pins... For wires connected to connectors, the wire termination can be assigned to the connector pin.

Define wire bridge and crimping... A wire may connect two pins of the same connector to create a bridge. Users can set two or more wires on the same contact if those wires belong to the same signal. The crimping function also allows users to delete the bridge wire.

Electrical disconnecting analysis... Users can define the correspondence of electrical pins for two mating connectors.

Analysis of electrical links between objects... Users can analyze all electrical links between objects for all electrical applications. For example:
  • Determine if bundle segments are connected together or with electrical connectors.
  • Identify wires contained into a bundle segment.
  • Determine on which pin a wire is connected to on an electrical connector.
  • Determine the physical implementation of functional connectors/equipment.

Reports about wire routing for harness manufacturing... Users can generate two types of textual synthesis reports:
  • HTML report files, including the list of physical wires created at routing step; and/or
  • XML files containing the complete harness description to be reused for harness manufacturing and documentation.
