During five days, racing planes are going to compete against each other in a crazy race above the Nevada desert. One obsession for those planes flying by squads of eight: fly low, fly fast and turn left!
The scenery, the planes’ incredible skills, the low altitude of the race, the logic of a closed race around pylons, the tightness of the competitor’ squad and the hundreds of thousands of spectators are what make this race the most famous and fastest one in the world.
Reno keeps this century old tradition which first occurred in 1909, in Reims, when the Great Aviation Week of Champagne had the worldwide aviation pioneers compete on everything: distance, speed, race… After crossing the Atlantic, pylon race quickly became the New World’s specialty. |

The circuit is materialized with pylons. The circuit length is different for each group, according to their type (T6, jets) or to their engine power (Formula One, Sport Class, unlimited)
In the Sport Class in which belongs Brig Frog, there are ten 11 yards high pylons to negotiate. The launch tour is 7.9 miles long, and the race tour is 6,3 miles long. The winner of all categories will be determined after a 10 lap race.
In the Sport Class category, in 2008, the winner raced an average of 409 mph, three times faster than a Formula 1 race. |
