Essentials of Buckling and Postbuckling in Abaqus

Take advantage of this live online course right from your desk. Each day of the class will begin with a lecture session. After the lecture, workshop sessions are conducted offline with technical support provided by hosting office via phone and email. Some hosting offices also allow for in-person attendance.

Objective

Buckling and postbuckling behavior is critical to the success of certain designs. For example, crash worthiness of an automobile requires that particular vehicle components collapse in ways that maximize energy absorption. On the other hand, successful designs of imperfection-sensitive, thin-walled shell structures, ranging from beverage containers to large pressure vessels, must prevent unintentional buckling.

This course blends the theoretical background on such topics as geometric nonlinearity and the Riks method together with examples, guidelines, and workshops to demonstrate how to:

  • Identify an imperfection-sensitive structure
  • Extract closely spaced eigenvalues efficiently
  • Introduce imperfections into a "perfect" mesh
  • Use the Riks method effectively
  • Use damping to control unstable motions

This online course is a customized subset of the Buckling, Postbuckling and Collapse Analysis with Abaqus course.

Who Should Attend

This course is recommended for engineers with experience using Abaqus/Standard.

What is Included

Electronic copies of the training notes will be provided to each registrant for their personal use. Every registrant will also receive a copy of Abaqus Student Edition. No additional Abaqus licenses will be provided, so to ensure that you can perform all the workshops fully you will need access to a licensed copy of Abaqus.
