Exalead improves search for Yorkshire Forward

Yorkshire Forward opts for Exalead's CloudView Search solution over Competing Enterprise Search Appliance.

Exalead, European leader of search solutions and information access software in the enterprise and on the web, today announced that Yorkshire Forward has selected its CloudView Search solution. The platform will enable more than 400 users to search across 15 million documents and to find and download information quickly. CloudView was chosen as the preferred search solution over a popular competing enterprise search appliance for its ease of implementation and feature-rich capabilities.

Yorkshire Forward is the regional development agency for the Yorkshire & Humber region, tasked with improving the economy to make it a better place to live, work and invest, and to ensure that the region is able to compete on the domestic and global stage. Founded in 1999, its main office is located in Leeds, but it has regional offices in Hull, York, Bradford and Wath upon Dearne.

Yorkshire Forward became disillusioned with its previous supplier's search solution's ability to easily query varied data sources cost-effectively. They also found that the information retrieved was not always consistent. Yorkshire Forward embarked on a proof of concept exercise with Exalead, which outperformed their then current solution on the first day, leading to an immediate order for the full Exalead CloudView solution.

"Being able to search for emails and appointments in Microsoft Exchange and open those items in the desktop via a standard browser was essential for the organisation," explained Exalead Managing Director, Raymond Bentinck. "The scalability and value-for-money of the Exalead solution for future growth was another deciding factor, as was our ability to listen to Yorkshire Forward's requirements and deliver them. The organisation can now search across a wealth of structured and unstructured data and get results in an instant."

CloudView Search is an easy-to-use platform for creating search-based applications that access structured as well as unstructured data such as instant messages, emails, web pages, and multimedia. Unlike traditional database applications, Exalead's SBA's provide information access via a search engine index and complementary Web technologies rather than through direct database queries. This provides an experience closer to that of the consumer Web, an experience that is intuitive, timely, responsive and relevant. This significantly boosts user satisfaction and enables IT to democratise information access.
