Dassault Systemes and IBM Launch New and Enhanced ENOVIA Solutions

 05-03-2001

With 28 new products, ENOVIA Solutions offer the industry’s widest range of collaborative Product Life Cycle Management solutions.

Paris (France) and Charlotte, North Carolina (USA), 03 May 2001… IBM and Dassault Systemes (NASDAQ: DASTY; Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA) announced today major enhancements to ENOVIA Portal Solutions Version 5 Release 6 (V5R6) and ENOVIAVPM Version 1 Release 4 (V1R4), and the introduction of the next generation of ENOVIA Life Cycle Applications (LCA) V5R6. With these additions ENOVIA Solutions provide the most comprehensive collaborative Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) capabilities in the industry, enabling companies to implement and deploy best practices for innovation in an open, knowledge-based environment that links companies, their customers and their suppliers.
Enhancements to ENOVIA Portal Solutions include nine new products that promote Web-centric 3d e-business collaboration, innovation and decision?making. The Portal’s powerful application and data federation capabilities enable users to connect heterogeneous and complex IT environments. ENOVIA Portal V5R6 provides new scientific knowledge applications and content, driving greater innovation during design. Its enhanced 3D collaboration capabilities include human modeling and simulation functions, and a virtual reality environment for immersive review.
ENOVIAVPM is the industry-leading solution for advanced Virtual Product Development Management (VPDM). It enables companies to implement innovative practices that leverage the value of configured digital mock-up for product definition, configuration and management throughout the entire product life cycle. ENOVIAVPM V1R4 supports 3D collaborative product development in the extended enterprise through distributed multi-site capabilities. It also offers extended multi-CAD capabilities, through enhanced CATIA V5 interoperability, to support relational design and associative change propagation.
ENOVIA LCA V5R6 provides enterprise PLM solutions, developed in cooperation with major manufacturers in all industry sectors, that are ready-to-use, and based on industry-best practices. Initially available to selected customers, this release includes 19 new, next-generation collaborative products that support engineering change control, document management, configured design and manufacturing product definition, variant management and standards-compliant data exchange. At the heart of ENOVIA Solutions is an industry-leading information hub in the form of a unique object and knowledge model, the Product Process Resource (PPR) hub. This open hub enables the continuous, dynamic simulation of product performance, and manages the effects of changes on the product and on its processes and resources, all of which help reduce dramatically development cycles and increases innovation. Through the exploitation of the Dassault Systemes’ Component Application Architecture (CAA), an industry-standard, ENOVIA Rapid Application Development Environment (RADE) enables fast customization, development, integration and deployment of applications.
Said Nabil Saad, General Manager, Enterprise Solutions, Integration and Architecture, Bombardier Aerospace, “One of our strategic objectives is to implement a fully integrated, digital product life cycle system, to reduce both aircraft development time and product change management cycle time. ENOVIA V5, as our technological platform, will enable us to achieve these goals, and help us gain an advantage in our highly competitive market.”
“No other PLM vendor has detailed knowledge of as many product life cycle processes as ENOVIA, and ENOVIA's new Life Cycle Solutions portfolio makes that expertise more accessible to the marketplace,” commented Wayne Collier, president, Engineering, Manufacturing and Design, DH Brown Associates Inc. “Users want process-focused applications, like these new PLM Solutions, that let them rapidly benefit from industry best practices. ENOVIA's coordinated strategy creates a platform linking processes and product information across a growing suite of high-impact applications.”
Joel Lemke, chief executive officer, ENOVIA Corp., said, “With today’s announcement, we now have a complete spectrum of products that satisfy the requirements of our most demanding customers. ENOVIA Portal Solutions are already demonstrating their value as an enterprise 3D collaborative product development environment. ENOVIAVPM, our flagship VPDM product, has seen unprecedented demand, and will continue to be our strategic VPDM solution—now for both CATIA V4 and V5 customers. The newly announced ENOVIA Life Cycle Applications will complement our ENOVIAVPM installations, and will stand alone, as well.”
Said Ed Petrozelli, general manager, IBM Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), “ENOVIA solutions enable companies of any size to increase innovation, optimize product life cycle costs, and address new markets with evolving business models. These core solutions for IBM’s PLM business unit deliver tangible results quickly: companies can easily adapt individual business processes across industries, to reduce manufacturing costs, decrease development time and use continuous product innovation to their competitive advantage.”
Commented Ed Miller, President, CIMdata, a leading global consulting firm focused on collaborative Product Definition management (cPDm) solutions, best practices, and technologies that help companies develop products in the evolving global e-business environment, “Dassault Systemes continues to expand their offerings to fulfill their vision of product life cycle management. Of particular note in this release is their PPR Hub, the fundamental component of their vision of a comprehensive product life cycle solution. The extension of their PPR Hub to include both manufacturing and management processes, and to include resources (such as machines, tooling, personnel, etc.) that are related to the product life cycle are essential in a fully inclusive approach, and position Dassault Systemes well for future extensions that build on this core capability.”
