Unique Authoring Solution for 3D Product Documentation

Paris, November 29, 2007 – Dassault Systèmes (DS), a world leader in 3D and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, today launched its new desktop content authoring system, 3DVIA Composer V6R1. Arriving only weeks after DS’s October 2007 acquisition of Seemage, this release features product enhancements, a new name, simplified packaging and global availability in all DS sales channels.  The launch of 3DVIA Composer reinforces DS’s commitment to the product documentation publishing marketplace and to enhancing 3DVIA Composer rapidly to serve the needs of customers.

“Following the acquisition, 3DVIA Composer maintains openness, enabling companies to exploit data from all of their information systems,” says Chris Williams, general manager, Enterprise Products Applications, 3DVIA.  “3DVIA reinforces the DS commitment to deliver solutions that leverages the reuse of product IP across the enterprise.”

"We were already successfully using Seemage in our technical documentation department and for after sales use to produce rich illustrations for the dealer network.   Now we are investigating how to extend 3DVIA Composer to new users who would leverage 3D product data in presentations and reports to facilitate business decisions,” says Jean-Luc Perrard, R&D IT VP, PSA Peugeot Citroen.

New features and packaging for 3DVIA Composer

3DVIA Composer V6R1 enhances prior releases with important new features, including:

  • Enhanced Animations and Views. 3DVIA Composer permits users to copy and paste among objects and to drag views in animations. These enhancements, which work using standard Microsoft® Windows® conventions, are examples of how 3DVIA Composer delivers advanced 3D capabilities to non-technical desktop users.
  • Support of ellipses in 2D vector graphics. 3DVIA Composer is unique in its ability to automatically generate technical illustrations from 3D data as part of an integrated desktop system. With these enhancements, technical illustrators can produce more accurate illustrations.
  • Innovative rendering capabilities. 3DVIA Composer offers the user the ability to render individual objects. Also included are new lighting objects. An innovative new capability called Layered Rendering allows desktop users to build up rendering of parts and assemblies to achieve the most appropriate visual representation of a procedure or process.
  • Improved performance for huge assemblies. 3DVIA Composer’s already market-leading performance, a benefit of its unique XML-based architecture, is enhanced with new load-on-demand capabilities and support for interactively browsing large assemblies.
  • FT&A improvements. 3DVIA Composer presents FT&A in the assembly tree as part of the information imported from the 3D data.

Availability and Requirements

3DVIA Composer is available worldwide in English and French. 3DVIA Composer is sold and supported by Dassault Systèmes’ global network of resellers and partners and is available in all of its PLM channels immediately.  In January 2008, it will also be available through DS’s Professional Channel (SolidWorks resellers).

3DVIA Composer integrates data from many different sources and systems. Supported 3D CAD systems and file formats include SolidWorks, CATIA V4 and V5, Pro/ENGINEER®, STEP, IGES and more. Integration with any PLM system can be accomplished via simple XML exchanges.

3DVIA Composer runs on standard Microsoft Windows desktops.
