Online 3D Eases Global Business, Promotes User Collaboration and More Efficient Product Design and Development

PARIS, Nov. 20, 2007 – Dassault Systèmes (DS) (Nasdaq: DASTY; Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA), a world leader in 3D and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, today announced that START-IT magazine has recognized DS’s 3DLive online collaborative intelligence software as one of its Top 50 Technologies for 2008. 3DLive is a lightweight online application that enables anyone in the product development chain to view design data and collaborate on demand.

“Based on its ability to help manufacturers address many of the industry’s key business opportunities including globalization and sourcing, we believe that Dassault Systemes’ 3DLive represents a significant technological advance. In particular we were impressed by the product’s focus on enabling more extensive collaboration between designers, engineers and the multitudes of other disciplines and people involved in the New Product Development and Introduction (NPDI) process without the need for large-scale new IT investments,” said START-IT editorial director Peggy Smedley. The START-IT Top 50 Technologies Award honors manufacturing products that help companies improve their business practices. The publication’s editors weigh a product’s “uniqueness and functionality in the marketplace” in making their decision.

3DLive features an intuitive “carousel” interface that uses 3D images of product designs for simple, easy navigation, eliminating time consuming searches through complex, unintuitive text menus in various databases and applications. This approach enables users to rapidly access product information from any source in the design chain. It lets design teams share information freely, while maintaining the unique information requirements and best practices they need to operate efficiently. 3DLive presents the information in context, showing each stakeholder how their work affects other stakeholders’ work. Design groups and individual users can form virtual teams to address impromptu concerns through 3DLive’s integrated tools, such as dynamic chat, 3D image sharing, co-navigation and annotation support.

“Understanding the needs of the enterprise user, we developed 3DLive to ensure that it could leverage existing collaboration infrastructures such as Microsoft’s Office Communicator Server and IBM’s Lotus Collaboration Suite. This approach enables stakeholders throughout the extended enterprise to collaborate easily and efficiently regardless of where they work or what software they have on their computers,” says Dominique Florack, senior executive vice president, Products - R&D, Dassault Systèmes. “We appreciate START-IT’s recognition and its understanding of PLM technology’s importance in the manufacturing industry.”
