Packaging and Artwork Design
In today’s highly competitive consumer packaged goods markets, the style and artwork aspect of product packaging is one of a key differentiator against competitors as well as being crucial to gaining immediate consumer excitement. In addition, rapid changes in consumer tastes and demands are forcing companies to come up with new innovative designs at an extremely fast pace. The unique and powerful surface technology of the Packaging and Artwork Design solution from Dassault Systèmes (DS) allows stylists to directly model their ideas in 3D, providing them with complete creative freedom. Realistic 3D geometric models can be quickly and easily created without prior sketching or prototyping and can then be directly leveraged by engineers.
In most organizations, creative and technical design teams are constantly driven by strict deadlines, causing them to be reluctant to adapt new technologies and business processes. This is especially true when the new approach takes them away from their comfort level and the tools that they are familiar with. Our solution's Artwork Integration is designed to allow creation and access to managed data directly from within native design tools, enabling the design teams to store their data in PLM and share it across the enterprise. With the product content being managed in the PLM environment much earlier in the development process, organizations are now able to collaborate much more effectively and concurrently rather than working in sequential processes.
Our solution provides the ability for you to manage Artwork and securely distribute product content by controlling the access based on company and/or brand level rules. The additional ability to communicate changes and easily subscribe to changes enables users to be alerted when changes are made to the native files. This solution also helps enforce the use of company standards with Document Templates, which enables the design teams to leverage existing templates when creating a new content.
To address any potential manufacturing issues early in the development cycle, collaboration between designers and manufacturing engineers is essential before the molds and tools are produced. Our solution helps ensure that mold and tooling design are automatically and seamlessly created within the same digital product definition. CATIA Functional Molded Parts (FMP) leverages core and cavity extraction capabilities and a functional modeling approach to enable the automatic extraction of industrial molds and tools from the product design. Unique relational design capabilities allow modifications made to the design to be directly propagated to the associated molds and tools, avoiding inconsistencies and costly iterations. In addition, many design tools – combined with the ENOVIA collaborative platform to store, manage and transfer data – allow for efficient collaboration to be conducted on precise quality specifications between internal teams and external suppliers.
Designers can also use finite element techniques, brought by our SIMULIA brand for virtual product testing, to analytically represent a product or package and then simulate load and constraint conditions to predict the performance of a concept design in advance of any investment in tooling, prototyping, or physical test validation. Design studies can be conducted to determine the effect of varying geometric features, material thickness, material properties, or alternative load cases to optimize the product for design features, weight, performance, or material.
