CATIA Composites Manufacturing Preparation provides a completely integrated CATIA environment dedicated to manufacturing detailed design of composite parts. It enables engineers to embed all manufacturing constraints early in the composites design process, such as manufacturing skin swapping, material excess definition and 3D multi-splice functionalities.

Design engineers can foster concurrent engineering with physical manufacturing thanks to the fiber deposit simulation, flattening tools with export to nesting, and cutting or laser projection shop floors.

    A swapping feature will transfer the plies from the design OML to the mold surface to account for springback. A material excess feature will automatically extend the Plies boundary from the Net to the Mfg EOP where needed. Material width check at Producibility and Flattening stages to validate that the ply fits the material roll width. A dedicated 3D multi-splice feature will help splice plies to accommodate the width of raw material. If required, Darts features can remove significant fiber distortions from plies.
  • Fiber simulation and flattening tools for early assessment of manufacturability
    The Producibility feature captures the fiber deposit context inside the design environment. Different display modes assess Shear deformation with visualization of wrinkles and bridges in the ply or Deviation with fiber rotations from the theoretical direction. Actual fiber directions can be inspected locally and this information can be exported for further reuse by in-house applications. A dedicated darting feature brings immediate feedback on fiber distortion removal. Once Producibility Parameters are stored, reliable Flat Patterns can be generated. Instant flat patterns display ensures to generate the right flat patterns the first time.
  • Effective manufacturing export capabilities for a hand lay-up process
    Downstream manufacturing operations require the ability to export the Composites geometries thru a neutral DXF or IGES format to address shop floor systems: dedicated outputs are generated for Laser Projection Systems or for Nesting /Cutting purpose.

    The CATIA V6 infrastructure offers a true collaborative composites engineering environment enabling designers to work engineering detailed design and physical manufacturing concurrently. Moreover, the associativity of the detailed design ensures consistency between design inputs and manufacturing outputs.
