ENOVIA Collaboration for STEP

ENOVIA® Collaboration for STEP imports Standard Exchange for Product Model (STEP) data geometry files to leverage expertise throughout the extended enterprise.

STEP is an international product data standard (ISO 10303) that provides a computer-interpretable definition of the physical and functional characteristics of a product throughout its lifecycle. The STEP format is a standard in the aerospace industry and used often in the automotive industry. STEP is a valuable data exchange solution for a variety of business processes, including configuration control of three-dimensional mechanical design.

ENOVIA Collaboration for STEP speeds innovation and improves quality by enabling users to share STEP files. For example, a supplier may receive a design in a STEP file and want to share the file with stakeholders. One person can store the STEP document and its generated CGR files in ENOVIA and share its content with anyone who also has ENOVIA® 3DLive™, CATIA V6 / ENOVIA® VPM Central™, and ENOVIA® Live Collaboration products. . Designers now can design in context and use the STEP content for mechanical engineering applications, and a manager can set up design review meetings including the latest supplier data.

  • Import and Manage STEP Files
    ENOVIA Collaboration for STEP functionality supports STEP external references. Files are stored in the database recursively and relations are maintained between them showing positioning matrixes. All the STEP files for an assembly will be imported when the assembly’s root file is selected. ENOVIA Collaboration for STEP stores all the assembly relations and positioning matrices so the assembly structure is properly maintained.
  • Navigate and Reuse STEP Files
    When the STEP files get imported into ENOVIA, they are converted into the DS CGR format. This enables the data to be used by a broad range of users. Designers can include the converted STEP data in their ENOVIA VPM Central session. Managers and collaborators can review the converted STEP data with either ENOVIA 3DLive or the 3DVIA® Viewer available with ENOVIA® Live Collaboration.
  • STEP Version Support
    ENOVIA Collaboration for STEP supports STEP application protocols (AP): AP 203 and AP 214. STEP application protocols address product identification, composition, and information related to bills-of-material (BOMs) and parts lists. AP 203 and AP 214 are very popular within the Aerospace industry.
