Program Single- and Multi- Spindle Lathe and Mill-Turn Machines
DELMIA Turning Machining (TUM) is an extension to DELMIA Prismatic Machining (MTM). It enables programming turning and mill-turn machines to produce 3D parts that require advanced operations. TUM immerses NC programmers in a lifelike Version 6 3D environment as they create, optimize, and validate programs in the context of the physical workplace. They can program complex multi-tasking mill-turn machines with synchronization and part transfer capabilities.
Through its Version 6 PLM environment, TUM provides easy access to information for machining resources, NC programs, and part setup that is always up-to-date. NC programmers can capture and leverage the enterprise’s intellectual property and use it to collaborate with other stakeholders throughout the enterprise as they develop, validate, and optimize their NC programs.
TUM can be extended by adding DELMIA NC Machine Simulation (NMS) to control and simulate the mill-turn machine selected to cut the part.

Best-in-class machining strategies for efficient programming of turning and mill-turn machinesTUM offers a full set of high-end turning operations such as roughing, finishing, groove turning, groove finishing, and thread turning for accurate toolpath definition. NC programmers can also author turning operations to address B- and C-axis interpolations of mill-turn machines.
Computation of intermediate stockTUM supports efficient programming of turning and mill-turn operations through the automatic computation of intermediate stock updates. Here the in-process stock is computed from the previous set of operations, based on removed material, and is automatically configured as the stock of the next operation.
Support of powerful multi-tasking capabilitiesProgrammers can author NC programs for complex mill-turn machines with multiple spindles and turrets using synchronization features, balance turning, and part-transfer capabilities. Through an immersive, intuitive interface, users can synchronize operations and passes within an operation and define part-transfer activities. Time-based toolpath simulation with material removal provides an accurate view of the status of the machined part at any instant.
A single IP platform for managing machining resourcesTUM is a Version 6 solution that utilizes the PLM 2.0 platform, letting users manage CNC machines, accessories, tools, and tool assemblies as PLM 2.0 objects. These resources can be retrieved through standard PLM search capabilities, using relevant machining attributes, and copied into the machining cell. Users get a clear understanding of the impact of changed definitions of PLM 2.0 objects, such as part or cutting tool definitions, across all NC processes and programs. This single IP platform supports default or customized representation of the cutter and tool assemblies that are used for verification, simulation with material removal, and collision checking.
Context-based, immersive user interfaceTUM users are immersed in a Version 6 3D environment. Context-based menus appear, based on what the user is doing. Traffic lights indicate undefined parameters. Help icons assist with parameter editing. When a help icon is clicked, an image describing that parameter pops up in the panel. Programs can be quickly organized in the activities process tree with copy-paste functions. Tool changes and machine rotations are automatically generated and can be visualized in the activity process tree.
Quick toolpath verification and editingTool path replay lets users generate and verify individual operations or the complete program. Alternative machining strategies can be tested to obtain collision-free trajectories. The milling tool path can be replicated, mirrored, translated and locally edited for mill-turn machines.
High levels of automation and standardizationMachining processes can be defined as dedicated templates and stored in a catalog for reuse. Templates can be retrieved and applied to the design features of the part geometry. Intellectual Property is capitalized and re-used to make programming more efficient. NC objects and attributes are handled as knowledgeware objects in order to increase the levels of automation and standardization in NC program creation.
Product design change managementTUM is a Version6 solution that offers complete associativity among CATIA Version6 design tools, product engineering, manufacturing processes, and resources. Users are automatically alerted to product design changes and can quickly assess their impact on the machining process. Users can easily update the tool-path program when necessary.
Seamless NC data generationTUM seamlessly generates APT source and NC Code ISO format through the integrated postprocessor execution engine, the library of standard postprocessor syntax mapping tables, and Post Processor (PP) samples. Output formats can be easily customized. Output is generated and managed as PLM 2.0 objects in the single IP platform. The manufacturing program’s key information can be exported as documentation for ready reference in the shop floor.
