Industrial equipment products are a complex array of mechanical and electrical components. Tailoring machines to meet customers’ needs requires the ability to configure not only mechanical components but electrical components as well. Electrical engineers need configuration capabilities from early 2D block diagrams, to principle and wiring diagrams all the way to 3D electrical mock-ups that leverage the same rules and options used for mechanical parts. Yet in many companies, mechanical and electrical engineers work in silos with different software that render sharing rules and other information, in a seamless way, impossible.

Electrical designers now have powerful configuration capabilities that they can apply to their 2D and 3D electrical design geometry and the associated bill of materials (BOM). The 3DEXPERIENCE platform is unique in that it seamlessly links wiring, cabling, harness and mechanical design with a configured approach. With this industry solution experience IPE , electrical designers can combine both configuration and visualization, as is the case with 3D mechanical design.
3DEXPERIENCE allows electrical and mechanical disciplines to work concurrently to advance their respective designs in parallel because each one can visualize what the other is doing. They use compatible solutions, enabling changes that are made to the mechanical design to automatically update cable and wire lengths and paths, saving valuable design time. Simple Electrical Configuration leverages the compatibility between these disciplines and delivers a technical configurator that enables electrical designers to use the same rules and options as their mechanical counterparts. When new requirements or options are defined, electrical designers can configure their 2D and 3D designs according to these new options.
With Simple Electrical Configuration, electrical engineers can configure and generate 2D schematics variants for a product. They can create 3D electrical models from 2D schematics and configure them as well. They can also configure harnesses by initially creating a generic harness and automatically generating all possible harness variants.
