Mechanical Systems Design

The challenge of balancing increasing complexity with rising performance and quality requirements is at the heart of product development.  3D virtual prototyping, combined with digital analysis and simulation, allows development teams to digitally create a 3D product and its environment, then simulate and analyze behavior to gain early insight into key factors in quality and performance.

Dassault Systèmes (DS)' solution for Mechanical Systems Design, based on our flagship product CATIA, integrates all processes used to define the product, making it easier to identify potential design flaws early in development.  Native integration between the design, realistic simulation (testing) and manufacturing applications of DS' solution bridges disciplines to optimize design for quality and performance standpoint, while speeding the product development process.  DS' solution enables designers to directly manipulate the connections between functional and logical entities and virtual geometry representing the physical end-product (i.e. RFLP or Requirement, Functional, Logical, Physical).  A Functional Logical Editor is provided to associate the conceptual requirements with the next steps in the systems definition process until detailed components are completed in CATIA. 

One of the key challenges of the product design-to-production process lies in making sure that the components are suitable for fabrication.  Designers need to have access to instant manufacturing information to prevent design flaws and manufacturing rules violations that otherwise result in higher project cost and schedule overruns.  DS' advanced knowledge management capabilities capture manufacturing specifications, embed them in intelligent templates and introduced them early in the design process.  Manufacturing information is automatically taken into account during the design process, reducing design time and avoiding design changes late in the process.  DS' solution enables designers to explore a wide variety of sophisticated conceptual design proposals while simultaneously integrating downstream technical constraints.
