Plant Reverse Engineering
Reverse Engineering is often a necessary process to revamp a plant or an equipment that were built in the pre-computer era. There are several techniques that can be employed for performing plant reverse engineering, for instance scanning 2D paper drawings or the asset itself and then converting the data into a digital model that can be manipulated further.
Dassault Systèmes (DS)' Plant Reverse Engineering solution, supported by the CATIA brand, provides a way to easily capitalize your asset information through reverse engineering and thus enables the reconciliation of As-Designed and As-Is information. Cloud of points and 2D drawings, which are captured by a scanner, can be imported into the system and converted into a 3D model. The 3D model facilitates the virtual inspection of the plant and can be used to study the impact of a new equipment installation or removal.
Even when a digital model of the asset exist, there is often a need to convert the data from one format to another. DS Plant Reverse Engineering solution also supports the conversion of 3D models from other systems such as Autodesk, AVEVA, Bentley and Integraph. The solution also provides dedicated applications for plant design such as piping and tubing which covers the entire process from design to manufacturing planning.
