With the product content being managed in the PLM environment much earlier in the development process, organizations are now able to collaborate much more effectively and concurrently rather than working in sequential processes.

To address any potential manufacturing issues early in the development cycle, collaboration between designers and manufacturing engineers is essential before the molds and tools are produced. Our solution helps ensure that mold and tooling design are automatically and seamlessly created within the same digital product definition. CATIA Functional Molded Parts (FMP) leverages core and cavity extraction capabilities and a functional modeling approach to enable the automatic extraction of industrial molds and tools from the product design. Unique relational design capabilities allow modifications made to the design to be directly propagated to the associated molds and tools, avoiding inconsistencies and costly iterations. In addition, many design tools – combined with the ENOVIA collaborative platform to store, manage and transfer data – allow for efficient collaboration to be conducted on precise quality specifications between internal teams and external suppliers.

 

Designers can also use finite element techniques, brought by our SIMULIA brand for virtual product testing, to analytically represent a product or package and then simulate load and constraint conditions to predict the performance of a concept design in advance of any investment in tooling, prototyping, or physical test validation.
