A 3D Experience Platform to Take up the IceDream Challenge

Make no mistake: the IceDream project is not just another creative piece of advertising! It is no fake, it is not fiction! It involves real people working on a real project in the real world.

French engineer Georges Mougin has been refining his revolutionary idea for over 40 years: towing icebergs for freshwater! Thanks to the power of Dassault Systèmes 3D Experience Plaftorm, his project has recently proven to be technically feasible, and not such a wild dream after all. Benefiting from social innovation capabilities to connect an international network of gurus from the spheres of engineering, glaciology, meteorology and physical oceanography, as well as realistic virtual experiences and the latest scientific simulation technologies to integrate complex oceanographic and meteorological information, Georges Mougin may be about to pioneer a new wave in the water and energy production industry.

Exploiting naturally drifting icebergs that would melt and be lost in the ocean’s salt water anyway! Taking the most out of the sea prevailing currents and winds to tow icebergs! That is Georges Mougin’s eco-friendly approach! Through 3D virtual experiences and scientific simulation, Georges Mougin has recently been able to test many scenarios in a short amount of time and take major steps ahead in his project.

As of today, almost a billion humans across the world are still without access to drinking water, while more than 2.5 billion have no water purification systems. The consequences of this include illness, malnutrition and failed harvests. The water issue is global and it must be considered as absolutely critical. Fortunately, there are innovators like Georges Mougin, whose idea may sound unrealistic at first sight. Sometime, such seemingly outlandish idea are the ones to create breakthrough for a better future. For sure, there are still some important aspects to be explored on Georges Mougin’s project, but after challenging the status quo for so many years, his idea deserved to be scientifically assessed and tested without prejudices. That is where 3D Experience comes into play, opening new horizons.
