Dassault Systèmes Takes a Turn on the Catwalk with FashionLab
01/12/2011Virtual Worlds Expand Creativity for the Future of Fashion
PARIS and NEW YORK, December 1, 2011 — Dassault Systèmes (Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA), a world leader in 3D and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, today announced the official launch of FashionLab, a technology incubator dedicated to fashion designers and stylists to explore and test new concepts using 3D. FashionLab is at the crossroads of the fashion world and the world of 3D, marrying the engineering creativity of Dassault Systèmes with the artistic inventiveness and industry know-how. It aims at giving rise to a fashion offering that integrates design, simulation and collaboration tools required to create an entire collection.
FashionLab builds innovation thanks to the creativity of Julien Fournié, founder of the couture house that bears his name, Jonathan Riss, artistic director of the JAY AHR House, and François Quentin, a designer of complex luxury watches and founder of 4N. These luxury fashion designers believe that 3D can propel fashion to new heights and are early ambassadors of the FashionLab – Julien Fournié for haute couture, Jonathan Riss for haute joallerie, embroideries, accessories and ready-to-wear, and François Quentin for haute watchmaking. These partners are working closely and exchanging ideas with Dassault Systèmes engineers through FashionLab, that will forge new and innovative solutions for high-end fashion design.
“FashionLab will deliver the power of 3D experiences to a new audience and develop the next generation of fashion designers. This is a totally new approach — a breakthrough for Dassault Systèmes and the world of Fashion solutions,” commented Jerôme Bergeret, director of FashionLab, Dassault Systèmes.
Jonathan Riss, JAY AHR said, “The luxury fashion industry can benefit from this natural evolution of the creative process, where ideas can be captured and immediately made ‘real’ through the power of virtualization and visualization.”
FashionLab provides the industry with new breakthrough technologies never seen before on the market that enhance the competitive advantage of its players and forge the future of the luxury goods market. Designers will have at their disposal every Dassault Systèmes brand to create a collection. FashionLab will help them imagine the fashion world of tomorrow better and faster, bringing them closer to their clients. They will also be able to share knowledge through a social network in private, secure work sessions.
“FashionLab is changing the boundaries of fashion design,” added Jérôme Bergeret. “Our mission is to develop 3D virtual modeling and collaborative tools that meet the needs of this industry and that will enable it to master the end-to-end creative process, from styling to final buyer. With FashionLab, designers will go beyond the limits of their imagination, building tomorrow’s fashion industry using the latest leading software technologies.”
“This partnership has strengthened my belief that 3D will revolutionize collaboration and design in the fashion industry. It is really exciting for a fashion house like mine to be part of this adventure,” said Julien Fournié.
“I am fascinated by this energy, this passion and also by the products. Developing tomorrow’s technology with FashionLab is an incredible opportunity and is the road to success. I really feel like I am at the heart of future watch making,” added François Quentin.
