Lawrence Tech Students Develop Winning Designs Using Dassault Systèmes’ CATIA

Solutions and Student Projects Being Demonstrated During NAIAS 2012

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., January 9, 2012 -- Dassault Systèmes (Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA), a world leader in 3D and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) announced today that Lawrence Technological University (LTU) Transportation Design students have created award-winning designs with the company’s CATIA design authoring solution. Student Colin Bonathan won first place from the Wheels Task Force of the Steel Market Development Institute for his unique steel wheel design developed and analyzed using CATIA and its finite element analysis capabilities. Bonathan’s design is on display during the North American International Auto Show in the Lawrence Tech booth.

The LTU booth will also feature Dassault Systèmes’ new CATIA Natural Sketch solution, a breakthrough 3D sketching experience that joins together the intuitiveness of creative 2D painting gestures with the power of accurate, realistic 3D modeling. For most designers, sketching is the medium of choice to express their ideas. By making sketching in 3D as intuitive as sketching on paper, CATIA Natural Sketch removes barriers towards 3D creation.

3D sketching was recently introduced to the LTU transportation design students and freshman Greg VanderVoord commented, “We all found CATIA Natural Sketch to be innovative, easy to use and a lot more efficient than the tools being used today. It is awesome to see your 2D sketch transformed into 3D surfaces right before your eyes.”

Keith Nagara, director of Lawrence Tech’s Transportation Design program, said, “Our program offers an environment that cultivates innovation where students quickly recognize the value that new design tools can offer. With CATIA Natural Sketch, the students readily embraced the solution, influencing the instructors on how valuable a tool it is.”

The Lawrence Tech Transportation Design program was initiated in 2007 at the request of automotive industry OEMs who were seeking designers with more technical aptitude. Each class is assigned a vehicle project for the year, which is then championed by an executive designer from each of the sponsoring companies.

CATIA was established as LTU’s premiere design authoring tool with the freshman class of 2010-11.

“We are honored to be a key partner in LTU’s design program,” said Phil Borchard, CATIA Shape and Styling specialist, Dassault Systèmes. “Use of CATIA in its program not only provides students with expanded creative capability, but also delivers the technical skills students will need to make the transition from academia to the private sector, helping them secure employment.”

Winners of Dassault Systèmes-Sponsored Interactive Design Competition to be Announced at Detroit Auto Show

Student Competition Encouraged Design Innovation Through Social Community Collaboration

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., January 9, 2012 -- Dassault Systèmes (Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA), a world leader in 3D and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, today announced that the winners of the Car Design News-General Motors (CDN-GM) interactive car design competition, co-sponsored by Dassault Systèmes, will be unveiled on Tuesday, Jan. 10 at 4:00 p.m. at the Cadillac stand in the General Motors exhibit, at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS). Split into two segments – interior and exterior for each of the GM brands -- eight winners will result from the 25 finalists. Each of the winners will have their work displayed at the 2012 NAIAS, and will receive a paid internship with GM, as well as an iPad 2.

The competition is unique in that it relies upon social community and collaboration to enhance original ideas. After submitting their designs, students received feedback from judges, mentors, fellow entrants and observers that helped them to refine and improve their designs as many times as they wanted, up until the final entry date. Automotive industry design leaders from each of the GM brand design teams, as well as from the competition sponsors Dassault Systèmes, Faurecia and SRG Global acted as mentors.

Anne Asensio, vice president, Design Experience at Dassault Systèmes, who served as a CDN-GM competition judge, said, “We believe that collaboration is key to developing innovative initiatives in the design field. We want participants to rethink the experience of vehicle design in regard to Web-based and digital technologies. Communication barriers are removed to enable a new level of creative input. Plus, new talent from otherwise lesser known design schools can be discovered.”

Competition mentor Drè Clemons, CATIA Industrial Design, Dassault Systèmes commented, “It has been exciting to sponsor and participate in this competition, which we see as an excellent way to invest and promote design education, especially in the face of recent educational cutbacks. These students have had the opportunity to receive input from leading industry professionals, helping to evolve their skill sets to a higher level. And, with the role of CATIA in the design of today’s vehicles, supporting a program such as this is a perfect fit for us.”

2012 North American Car of the Year Finalists All Developed in Dassault Systèmes’ CATIA

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., January 6, 2012 ─ Dassault Systèmes (Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA), a world leader in 3D and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), announced that the six finalist vehicles in the 2012 North American Car/Truck of the Year (NACTOY) awards were all developed using CATIA, long recognized as the leading design solution in the automotive industry. The finalists within the car category are the Ford Focus, Hyundai Elantra and Volkswagen Passat, while the truck finalists are the BMW X3, the Honda CR-V and the Land Rover Range Rover Evoque.

“We congratulate these finalists and recognize that each of them has developed an outstanding vehicle,” said Olivier Sappin, vice president, Transportation & Mobility Industry, Dassault Systèmes. “We feel honored that our solutions have played a part in helping these companies deliver exciting vehicles to the industry while meeting multiple criteria.”

The NACTOY awards are unique in the United States since they are given by a coalition of no more than 50 automotive journalists from the United States and Canada, representing magazines, television, radio, newspapers and Web sites, and not by a single media outlet. The awards are financed by the jurors’ dues and NACTOY does not accept advertising from automakers.

To be eligible, a vehicle must be completely new or substantially changed. The intent is to select a car and a truck that establishes new benchmarks in the classes in which they compete. Jurors evaluate the vehicles on factors including value for the dollar, innovation, handling, performance, safety and driver satisfaction.

After considering dozens of vehicles this year, the jurors finally voted on 17 cars and seven trucks, which were then narrowed down to three in each category. The jurors will now vote again on these three finalists. The winner of each category will be announced on Monday, January 9 at 7:15 a.m. EST, the opening press day of the North American International Auto Show.

The world’s leading car and truck manufacturers have been relying on Dassault Systèmes PLM solutions (e.g. CATIA, DELMIA, ENOVIA and SIMULIA) for nearly 30 years. Today, the world's major automakers recognize the value Dassault Systèmes PLM solutions bring to the design, safety and eco-sustainability of their automotive, transportation and mobility products.

Dassault Systèmes’ latest Version 6 has made next generation PLM possible with a unique and new approach to the technology. This single, open and scalable platform enables automakers to collaborate across their global enterprise and supply chain, allowing for innovative practices while providing full traceability throughout the vehicle lifecycle. Users can simulate how vehicle will perform, be built and experienced by the customer before making any capital investment.

Dassault Systèmes Announces Isight 5.6 for Simulation Automation and Design Optimization

Latest Release Accelerates Design Space Exploration with Smarter Optimization and Open Integration Enhancements

VÉLIZY-VILLACOUBLAY, France and PROVIDENCE, R.I., USA, December 19, 2011 — Dassault Systèmes (Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA), a world leader in 3D and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, today announced the availability of Isight 5.6, the market-leading open desktop solution for simulation process automation and design optimization from SIMULIA, the Dassault Systèmes brand for realistic simulation. Isight 5.6 includes enhancements in optimization, modeling and simulation integration, and postprocessing.

Isight provides designers, engineers and researchers with an open system for integrating design and simulation models—created with various CAD, CAE and other software applications—to automate the execution of hundreds or thousands of simulations. Isight allows users to save time and improve their products by optimizing them against performance or cost metrics through statistical methods such as Design of Experiments (DOE) or Design for Six Sigma.

“Isight has features and add-ons that allow us to integrate all of the different codes and interfaces used for our physics subroutines,” said Cosimo Chiarelli, head of the Aeromechanics and Propulsion unit in Business Segment Space Infrastructure and Transportation at Thales Alenia Space Italia in Turin. “It played a key role in helping us unify our processes and saved a considerable amount of time in our design optimization process.”

Among the new features for design optimization, Isight 5.6 provides a reliability analysis technique for importance sampling that allows users to compute and sample around the most probable point of failure in a design. When compared to sampling around the mean value point, importance sampling requires orders of magnitude fewer evaluations for the same accuracy in predicting the probability of failure or success. This is especially important in the verification of high-reliability systems, such as jet turbines or automotive brakes.

“Many customers, such as Thales Alenia Space, are gaining significant business benefits from using Isight as a tool for virtual product verification and validation,” said Alex Van der Velden, director, SIMULIA, Dassault Systèmes. “For example, when designing a space vehicle, one rarely has the luxury of using full-scale physical prototypes to iteratively optimize both the vehicle and its reentry trajectory. Virtual testing supported by simulation automation and design exploration technology is critical in helping manufacturing companies achieve the right performing design, faster and with less physical testing.”

Isight 5.6 also enhances several components, which are the building blocks of simulation process flows. The latest release includes updates to the Abaqus component to support multiple Abaqus/CAE cases by providing users with the option to parse all detected input files and create output parameters for multiple analyses. Improvements to the Data Matching component enable the definition and matching of multiple data sets within multiple ranges.

Isight 5.6 delivers a number of postprocessing enhancements, including new options in the approximation viewer for overlay constraints graphs to perform quick trade-off studies by relaxing constraints, showing or hiding constraint boundaries, and viewing constraint violations using a floor projection graph.

For additional product information, visit: http://simulia.com/products/isight.html or http://www.3ds.com/products/simulia/portfolio/.

More than 800 High-Tech Jobs in Massachusetts; Dignitaries, Executives Experience the Future in 3D at World-Class, LEED-Certified Campus in Waltham

WALTHAM, Mass. — December 8, 2011 — Dassault Systèmes (Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA), a world leader in 3D and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, today officially opened its DS Boston Campus, the company’s new North American headquarters. Located in Waltham, the award-winning 27-acre campus is heralded as a showcase for sustainable innovation, the creation of lifelike experiences using 3D, and has been LEED-certified, demonstrating the company’s commitment to conserving national resources.
Public figures, such as His Excellency François Delattre, France’s Ambassador to the United States and Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor Tim Murray, joined Dassault Systèmes President and CEO Bernard Charlès and North America Managing Director Al Bunshaft at the opening event, which included an official ribbon-cutting ceremony, a tour of the campus and demos of the company’s latest 3D technologies.
During his welcome address Bernard Charlès stated, “What you see behind me is not just a building. It is a living laboratory for our Dassault Systèmes vision. From this place, we will reach out to the world with our technology and services. This is where we will help creative people visualize solutions to the challenges that face the world, validate that those visions will work, and plan how to bring those visions to life in the most efficient, sustainable way possible.”
Added Al Bunshaft, “We wanted to create a healthy work environment where people would love the space they work in, while promoting creativity and collaboration.”
“Massachusetts has a rich history of innovation, and we continue to welcome new ideas and business growth across the state,” said Massachusetts Lieutenant Governor Murray. “The Patrick-Murray Administration is thrilled to have Dassault Systèmes grow in Massachusetts, and we look forward to the success of their expanded footprint and latest 3D technologies.”
“As France’s premier software company and a leading technology company internationally, Dassault Systèmes embodies the long history of friendship and cooperation between France and the United States," said Ambassador Delattre. “America, France and many other nations come together in Dassault Systèmes’ culture of collaboration to bring technology, advancement and sustainable business practices to the world.”
The Boston Campus brings together employees who had previously been split between locations in Concord and Lowell, Massachusetts. It includes 320,000 square feet of
office, technology lab and data center space, along with a virtual reality center, the campus’ breakthrough facility for implementing and experiencing unique virtual worlds with Dassault Systèmes technology.
A Hub for Sustainable Innovation, Built With Dassault Systèmes Solutions
The campus was designed and outfitted with sustainable innovation in mind. More than 2,000 tons of recycled steel were used in construction and 61,000 tons of structural materials re-used as fill. The heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) units use a chemical-free electrostatic water treatment unit instead of chlorine. Overall energy use is reduced by 29 percent through a combination of high-efficiency rooftop HVAC units and boilers.
The DS Boston campus has been awarded Gold LEED Construction Certification, along with the Commercial Brokers Association Suburban Office Deal of the Year; and the Massachusetts Alliance for Economic Development (MassEcon) Team Massachusetts Economic Impact Award.
Dassault Systèmes engaged Jones Lange LaSalle as its leasing agent and also for project management. The interiors were designed by Elkus Manfredi Architects, with Columbia Construction providing pre-construction and construction management services. Elkus Manfredi Architects used Dassault Systèmes’ DraftSight and SolidWorks solutions to help fulfill the strict environmental requirements for LEED Gold Certification of the interior design.
As Europe’s second-largest software company, Dassault Systèmes serves manufacturers in all industries, from automotive and aerospace to fashion, high tech and consumer goods. A broad range of American corporations—from Boeing and P&G to Tesla Automotive and Terrafugia, makers of the world’s first commercially-available flying car, utilize 3D solutions from Dassault Systèmes to make their ideas a reality
For pictures from the event and a list of quotes from dignitaries and Dassault Systèmes executives, please visit http://3dscampus.tumblr.com.
###

Dassault Systèmes Takes a Turn on the Catwalk with FashionLab

Virtual Worlds Expand Creativity for the Future of Fashion

PARIS and NEW YORK, December 1, 2011 — Dassault Systèmes (Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA), a world leader in 3D and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, today announced the official launch of FashionLab, a technology incubator dedicated to fashion designers and stylists to explore and test new concepts using 3D. FashionLab is at the crossroads of the fashion world and the world of 3D, marrying the engineering creativity of Dassault Systèmes with the artistic inventiveness and industry know-how. It aims at giving rise to a fashion offering that integrates design, simulation and collaboration tools required to create an entire collection.

FashionLab builds innovation thanks to the creativity of Julien Fournié, founder of the couture house that bears his name, Jonathan Riss, artistic director of the JAY AHR House, and François Quentin, a designer of complex luxury watches and founder of 4N. These luxury fashion designers believe that 3D can propel fashion to new heights and are early ambassadors of the FashionLab – Julien Fournié for haute couture, Jonathan Riss for haute joallerie, embroideries, accessories and ready-to-wear, and François Quentin for haute watchmaking. These partners are working closely and exchanging ideas with Dassault Systèmes engineers through FashionLab, that will forge new and innovative solutions for high-end fashion design.

“FashionLab will deliver the power of 3D experiences to a new audience and develop the next generation of fashion designers. This is a totally new approach — a breakthrough for Dassault Systèmes and the world of Fashion solutions,” commented Jerôme Bergeret, director of FashionLab, Dassault Systèmes.

Jonathan Riss, JAY AHR said, “The luxury fashion industry can benefit from this natural evolution of the creative process, where ideas can be captured and immediately made ‘real’ through the power of virtualization and visualization.”

FashionLab provides the industry with new breakthrough technologies never seen before on the market that enhance the competitive advantage of its players and forge the future of the luxury goods market. Designers will have at their disposal every Dassault Systèmes brand to create a collection. FashionLab will help them imagine the fashion world of tomorrow better and faster, bringing them closer to their clients. They will also be able to share knowledge through a social network in private, secure work sessions.

“FashionLab is changing the boundaries of fashion design,” added Jérôme Bergeret. “Our mission is to develop 3D virtual modeling and collaborative tools that meet the needs of this industry and that will enable it to master the end-to-end creative process, from styling to final buyer. With FashionLab, designers will go beyond the limits of their imagination, building tomorrow’s fashion industry using the latest leading software technologies.”

“This partnership has strengthened my belief that 3D will revolutionize collaboration and design in the fashion industry. It is really exciting for a fashion house like mine to be part of this adventure,” said Julien Fournié.

“I am fascinated by this energy, this passion and also by the products. Developing tomorrow’s technology with FashionLab is an incredible opportunity and is the road to success. I really feel like I am at the heart of future watch making,” added François Quentin.

Medical Device Company Lumenis Unifies Engineering and Business Processes with Dassault Systèmes’ ENOVIA Version 6

Manage all Engineering Data While Ensuring Strict Quality Standards and Compliance to Regulations

KFAR SABA, Israel and PARIS (European Customer Forum) - November 23, 2011 - Dassault Systèmes (Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA), a world leader in 3D and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, announced today that Lumenis, the largest medical laser company in the world, has selected ENOVIA Version 6, after a meticulous evaluation process, to fully master the company’s engineering information and business processes. ENOVIA and its Life Sciences Accelerators will be implemented to respond to Lumenis’ aesthetic, ophthalmic, and surgical entities’ needs across its entire organization.

ENOVIA Version 6 will provide Lumenis with an online collaborative framework to manage and control its planning processes in compliance with stringent quality standards and regulatory requirements across the company’s full range of products and will include its entire supply chain. Lumenis will manage all engineering data in the different planning phases while integrating them with existing CAD systems. It will also facilitate the management of all product-related information (mechanical, electrical and software) on one single platform.

Built on top of the ENOVIA Version 6 PLM collaborative innovation platform, the ENOVIA Life Science Accelerators for Product Quality and Regulatory Affairs give Lumenis a major advantage by offering an end-to-end solution that spans the entire product development process and the majority of the quality systems processes within a single environment. This makes it easy for contributors within the different groups of product development and quality systems to access the information they need regardless of who created or owns it. Workflows can be developed, crossing boundaries within product development, enabling the automation of many manual processes.

According to Zvika Weingart, chief information officer, Lumenis, the implementation of ENOVIA Version 6 will be a significant asset to accelerate the development process of new products that Lumenis is planning to launch in the coming years. Not only will the solution speed up the product development process, but the power of ENOVIA also lies in its ability to enforce ongoing engineering processes, and improve Lumenis’ collaboration with its customers and distributors.

"Our decision to choose Dassault Systèmes’ platform to achieve long-term improvement while reducing cost of investment has been positively influenced by the flexibility and openness of Version 6 technology,” said Zvika Weingart. “With ENOVIA Version 6’s excellent xCAD and ERP integration capabilities, we are confident we made the smartest choice to manage our mechatronics product lifecycle.”

"Lumenis’ choice of an integrated and open approach offered by Dassault Systèmes’ Version 6 is an important milestone in our efforts to introduce our innovative platform to the mature and advanced medical devices market,” commented Gilad Friedman, manager, Israel, Dassault Systèmes.

Dassault Systèmes Introduces Unique 3D Sketching Experience

CATIA Natural Sketch Revolutionizes the Way to Express and Communicate Creative Design Intent

PARIS (European Customer Forum) — November 23, 2011 — Dassault Systèmes (Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA), a world leader in 3D and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, announced today the availability of CATIA Natural Sketch, a breakthrough 3D sketching experience, that finally brings together the intuitiveness of creative 2D painting gestures and the power of accurate, realistic 3D modeling. For most designers, sketching is the medium of choice to express their ideas. By making sketching in 3D as intuitive as sketching on paper, CATIA Natural Sketch brings an experience that matches creative purposes while removing emotional barriers towards 3D creation.

“Dassault Systèmes is continuously striving to make the power of its widely recognized 3D creation solutions accessible to a larger audience with the right experience empowering designers with intuitiveness while enhancing their creativity,” said Anne Asensio, VP, Design Experience, Dassault Systèmes. “To turn dreams into reality we have successfully brought together forward-looking designers and Dassault Systèmes technology experts, resulting in registered patents and delivering this unique 3D sketching experience.”

This first-of-its-kind, lifelike creative experience helps designers to free up their creativity and share their ideas more rapidly and precisely.

“Enticing, inspirational, and intuitive! The strokes look like real pencil on paper and it’s great fun to sketch. I imagine that it would revolutionize the way I design every day,” commented Jens Paulus, Jens Paulus Design. “Maybe the greatest advantage is that you get inspired while creating 3D as you are sketching at the same time.”

Alexandre Meyer, automotive designer, added, “An incredible ergonomic step forward: easier than pen on paper. A powerful way of working with concepts! It is probably one of the first designer's mind-oriented technologies. This technology is transforming any creative workflow.”

CATIA Natural Sketch also eliminates workflow disruptions through the entire industrial design process. Transitioning from ideation to actual design is typically challenging. A sketched 2D idea can turn out to be not feasible in 3D and the process of constructing 3D models from an original 2D sketch is very time consuming and prone to design intent interpretation errors.

Sketching in 3D with CATIA Natural Sketch enables designers to better understand their design in 3D, avoid misinterpretations of 2D views, and better communicate their ideas to 3D modelers. It also gives designers and design studio teams the ability to use 3D sketched curves to create a model with surface modeling or subdivision surface modeling tools within CATIA. By directly transforming a 2D sketch into a 3D digital product, inconsistencies between the design intent and reality can be avoided, resulting in dramatic improvements in design quality.

Following the release of CATIA Live Rendering for interactive, photorealistic visualization a year ago, CATIA Natural Sketch is a key new element of Dassault Systèmes’ Live Design leadership strategy. CATIA Natural Sketch completes the CATIA for Creative Designers solution, which now combines 3D sketching, concept modeling, class-A surface modeling, rapid prototyping and visualization. CATIA for Creative Designers addresses the complete industrial design workflow in a unified environment, from ideation and concept to refinement, design validation, and final production-ready 3D product.

"Discovering the new CATIA for Creative Designers solution was very fascinating as it enables me to literally draw in 3D,” said Pauline Deltour, Product Designer. “It offers a direct translation of the idea I have in mind into the 3D world and takes care of all the uncomfortable steps of the process."

Nikon Corporation Adopts Dassault Systèmes’ Version 6 to Drive Designers’ Idea-Generation Process

Sets Out to Increase the Creativity and Efficiency of the Design Process

TOKYO and PARIS (European Customer Forum) — November 22, 2011 — Dassault Systèmes (Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA), a world leader in 3D and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, today announced that Nikon Corporation, Imaging Company, a leading optical equipment manufacturer, of which Industrial Design Department has adopted Dassault Systèmes’ Version 6 PLM as its collaborative design platform. Nikon’s Industrial Design Dept. is expecting CATIA Version 6 to serve as the idea-generation support solution for its designers and as the driver to further enhance quality through higher design precision. Nikon will utilize the ENOVIA Version 6 collaborative platform to streamline the data-sharing process, strengthen security and promote more efficient data management.

This new adoption will primarily benefit one of main business arms of Nikon’s Industrial Design Dept., which will be relying on Version 6 to facilitate its processes for designing a wide range of products from cameras to optical equipment, such as binoculars and microscopes.

Mr. Ken Moro, Industrial Design Department, and leader of the CATIA Version 6 project team at Nikon Corporation, said, “Since the implementation of CATIA V5 ten years ago, the efficiency of our design process has improved significantly. This has been possible mainly because our designers were able to create 3D data for digital mockups with greater ease. Taking advantage of the enhanced rendering capabilities of CATIA Version 6, we intend to further refine our design quality and establish a more creative design process. We also expect CATIA Version 6 to work as the idea-generation support solution for our designers, helping them smoothly embody and deploy the ideas they have originated.”

The interests of Nikon’s Industrial Design Dept. in expanding its global business deployment capabilities are also fueling its expectations of Version 6’s distinctive features as a unique, open, collaborative solution. Its Industrial Design Dept. is looking for leaner operation by minimizing the number of mockup models that actually need to be built, as well as faster decision-making processes across the 27 subsidiaries affiliated with Nikon Corporation.

Tomohiko Suetsugu, managing director, Japan, Dassault Systèmes, said, “Nikon ‘s Industrial Design Dept. aims at enhancing the creative aspect of its design process by using our Version 6 solutions to support its designers’ idea-generation activity, which forms an essential part of the design process. Dassault Systèmes will continue delivering high value solutions that contribute extensively to the improvement of our customers’ business processes.”

Tawazun Precision Industries ensures sustainable growth

Tawazun Precision Industries (TPI), Tawazun’s precision machining company established in Abu Dhabi, today disclosed its successful deployment of Dassault Systèmes’ ENOVIA Version 6 as the foundation for all its product development processes. ENOVIA Version 6 is a single environment ensuring real-time collaborative engineering. It provides common change management and configuration control between engineering and manufacturing to speed development, making sure both teams are working from the same “version of the truth”.
Like a symbol of the United Arab Emirates’ drive for economic diversification, Abu Dhabi’s Tawazun Precision Industries (TPI) is growing rapidly and branching out. Part of the Tawazun Group, TPI was established in 2007 to produce machining components and is quickly expanding into the aerospace and oil & gas industries. With an eye firmly on the future, TPI decided in 2010 to implement ENOVIA Version 6 as part of its strategy to build its growth on strong foundations by implementing the most efficient structure and development processes.
“We need to demonstrate to our Customers that we are able to ensure complete traceability of the components we deliver, matching the strict requirements regarding configuration management and traceability required by aerospace Industry,” says Vincent Mohni, senior operations manager, TPI. “We also required a solution that would provide a foundation for all our product development processes and that would enable us to grow as we expand our activities. We chose Dassault Systèmes because we believe they can help us achieve our milestones in the years to come. The advantage with Dassault Systèmes’ offering is the multitude of fully integrated solutions it provides. We have very strong options available to us.”
TPI received support from Dassault Systèmes business partner Dasbat Aviation, an Abu Dhabi based advanced technology company which Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) Division is focused on High Tech software and PLM Competency Center, for implementation and training. “Having local support is considered a strong differentiating factor for companies in the UAE; it promotes development of the rapidly emerging UAE industry,” Mohni says.
ENOVIA provides TPI with important features such as archiving and seamless integration with Dassault Systèmes CATIA, which TPI uses for 3D modeling, design and assembly of fixtures,as well as NC programming. “This integrated end-to-end engineering to manufacturing solution greatly facilitated our work. Plus, our engineers can now collaborate on projects simultaneously,” Mohni concludes.
Muaatasem Awda, CEO of TPI says: “It is within TPI’s mandate to be an active player in Abu Dhabi economic diversification, within the framework of the strategic development guidelines set by UAE High Authorities with the Abu Dhabi 2030 vision.” TPI’s strategy to expand into the aerospace industry contributes to achieving Abu Dhabi’s plans for economic diversification and the ongoing development of the UAE economy. Awda says he believes that implementing best practices such as Dassault Systèmes PLM solutions will help TPI support this goal. “Expanding our manufacturing capabilities to other sectors contributes to the diversification of our activity and consequently our economy,” he says.
Developing students PLM skills is key to both TPI and the UAE economy, Awda says. “The challenge we face today is to hire local UAE engineers who graduate from school already possessing the PLM and 3D modeling skills we need, and that are widely used by the industry,” Awda states. “We are very supportive of Dasbat/Dassault Systèmes initiatives with leading UAE universities and institutes in the field of PLM-based multidisciplinary curricula development and implementation. We have also designed our own tailored program in a partnership between a major UAE University, Tawazun’s Work Study Program and Dassault Systèmes. We are comforted in our choice since this will contribute to build the sustainable pipeline of UAE National skilled engineers and technicians that our industry needs.”
Philippe Forestier, Executive Vice-President Global Affairs and Communities, Dassault Systèmes, commented: “TPI was the first company in the Gulf region to deploy ENOVIA Version 6 at the beginning of 2011 and we are very pleased to play a key role in their growth strategy. The education program developed between TPI and Dassault Systèmes to support this strategy with a sustained flow of young Emirati engineers is also emblematic of what we want to achieve in term of long-term business partnership . Dassault Systèmes is committed to support this kind of focused educational programs to support the development of the UAE economy. ”
