Safety and effectiveness are the key measurements of medical devices. Conducting physical testing for these measurements is both expensive and time-consuming. Physical fatigue testing of a new device design could take months to complete which significantly slows down the device design cycles. Validated computational models generated using the finite element method provide tremendous value to medical device manufactures by accelerating device design iterations. Such models also provide critical information about the devices, like detailed stress and strain distributions, beyond physical testing.
