CATIA for Engineers enables Digital Prototyping including Analysis and Simulation for design and validation of function quality and performance at all stages ofthe design.
Mechanical engineering is complex as assemblies are designed to perform a specific task with a specific target performance. Digital prototyping, combined with digital analysis and simulation, allows product development teams to virtually create and analyze a mechanical product in its environment. Mechanical engineers must be equipped with these tools so that they can gain insight into key factors in quality and performance early in the product development phase.
CATIA Fabricated Part Design
Design sheetmetal parts and advanced welded assemblies rapidly.
Industrial companies are constantly striving to reduce design-to-manufacturing cycles for complex sheetmetal parts, while ensuring they are standard compliant.
CATIA Fabricated Part Design ensures a rapid design of sheetmetal parts, by taking capitalized know-how and manufacturing constraints into account early in the design process. This ensures full compliance with company rules and standards for efficient manufacturing.
The Weld Design workbench makes it possible to complete the design of complicated welded assemblies based on process definitions and rules. Classical or user-defined welds and part preparation are created in 3D, with associative annotations and right symbols generated in 2D drawings.
- Design complex sheetmetal parts quickly and efficiently
- Define user environments to improve quality
- Empower concurrent engineering and assess manufacturability constraints
- Foster productivity by drawing with dedicated sheet metal capabilities
- Create welding operations and automatic part preparation with intuitive tools
- Obtain complete flexibility with user-defined weld
- Preserve design intent with associative parts, 2D annotations, and generative and interactive drafting
- Use weld data downstream
Complete sheetmetal modeling capabilities based on compliance with industrial standardsThe user is provided with dedicated tools for sheet metal feature-based modeling, as well as specific processes for Ruled and Non-Ruled (with double curvature) sheet metal parts, for instance. Designers can decompose parts with a unique multi-body capability for a better understanding of the design. The company’s standard sheet metal components can be migrated from V5 or created for capitalization (bend tables, stamps, tooling templates). Profiles, body punches or dies selected in catalogs can supply Cutout, Corner Relief and Stamp creations.
Work concurrently on the unfolded state and on several folded statesCollaborators may take advantage of two views of the sheet metal part: the folded and the unfolded views. Moreover, different manufacturing preparation stages of the same part can be managed for the 'strip lay out' process. The drawing generation supplies sheet metal manufacturing. And a seamless export extracts documents in DXF format (the AutoCAD ASCII format) for nesting and cutting downstream applications.
Set up data management of external resources by the administratorAll the external resources such as the design tables, catalogues or rule sets can be defined by the administrator in environments for each kind of user. This guarantees that users will use the right profiles from catalogues, for instance, or that they will benefit from parameters already fixed in design tables (plate thickness, bend radius, etc.). It also guarantees that a knowledge rule will be automatically instanciated in every new part, checking minimum distance between folds and holes, or allocating colors depending on the feature type, or forbidding stamps creation if necessary. It offers tight control for good quality without user action.
Simplified exchanges with neutral formatsModify external sheet metal parts (via international standards such as STEP and IGES) thanks to feature recognition.
Creates welding operations from a catalogue or from user-defined shapesCreates welding operations, from a catalogue of classical welding beads based on ISO standards or from user-defined shapes.
Automatic generation of weld preparation featuresThese features are automatically generated and the resulting prepared plates can be associatively merged in a single derived representation.
Flexible and process-driven data managementThe welding workbench provides users with the ability to manage weld features in a dedicated product. Moreover, with this PLM welding solution, seam welds apply to plates which can be structured in one representation or in several products.
Associative 2D annotations and normalized weld drawingsAssociative 3D geometry and 2D annotations preserve design intent. Normalized Weld drawings are generated with annotations.
Generation of welding reportsWelding costs are easy to estimate thanks to the automatic generation of a welding report, which includes the physical properties of the welds (length, mass) and the way they are organized (bundles, weld bodies).
