Dassault Systèmes’ DELMIA Body-in-White Solution Receives Automotive Engineering Tech Award
08/05/2007Named One of the Top 20 Technologies at SAE Congress 2007
Auburn Hills, MI., USA, May 8, 2007 - Dassault Systèmes (DS) (Nasdaq: DASTY; Euronext Paris: #13065, DSY.PA), a world leader in 3D and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions, announced today that the DELMIA Body-in-White (BiW) solution was one of 20 products to receive the Automotive Engineering International (AEI) 2007 Tech Awards, which are announced yearly at the SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) World Congress.
The SAE Tech Award winners are selected by the editors of Automotive Engineering magazine, who review new products submitted from a field of approximately 200 products and technologies that are displayed at the annual SAE World Congress exhibition and conference.
“We are proud to have our Body-in-White solution selected as an outstanding new technology by SAE,” said DELMIA vice president, Worldwide Marketing & Business Development, Peter Schmitt. “This solution is of great importance to the automotive community as it provides seamless integration throughout the entire vehicle manufacturing process, from early planning through process simulations to reduce new program ramp-up time.”
The DELMIA BiW scalable solution allows users to create, modify, and validate automotive body-in-white planning for lines and stations prior to production including the setup of tools, fixtures, stations, and lines as well as the respective processes. The user defines the overall process; identifies the fastening points and fixtures; and validates the throughput and capacity to identify potential bottlenecks and modify the line as needed with all processes verified in a 3D environment.
DELMIA’s recently enhanced BiW solution features improvements to the DELMIA Manufacturing Change Management allowing users increased flexibility and communication in the creation and management of manufacturing lines. These enrichments help manufacturing planners to easily update plans with the latest part revision by viewing an automatically-generated modification table. This table quickly identifies the manufacturing assemblies that contain any parts that have been affected by a design change.
Also unique to this release is a resource-centric view that allows process planners to assign parts directly from the Engineering Bill of Materials (EBOM) to the desired station in the factory. Through use of an automatic assignment assistant, parts and fasteners are assigned and relocated to and from different operations, thereby automating many standard tasks. This accelerates the manufacturing planning process and reduces program ramp-up time.
