Medtronic Physio-Control (Physio), a subsidiary of Medtronic, manufactures, markets and distributes an integrated line of non-invasive emergency cardiac defibrillator and vital-sign assessment devices, capnographs and data management software.
The Challenge
Physio needed to update its PDM (product data management) system to a Y2K-compliant system and streamline its processes by automating all systems in one place. One area of focus was on integrating the company’s many CAD and engineering tools including, QAD’s MFG/Pro, Cadence and Pro/INTRALINK (Pro/I). Moreover, as a medical device company, Physio is bound by FDA regulation 21 CFR Part 11 (commonly known as Part 11) regarding electronic signatures and approval.

Physio integrated its ERP (enterprise resource planning) tool to eMatrix and integrated Pro/I in less than two days. Users will view drawings, structures and parts in Pro/I through eMatrix. For all integrations, Physio is using eMatrix to complete the data modeling instead of doing so in separate databases, consolidating information into one location.
