Product Overview

CATIA - Raceway & Conduit Design 2 (RCD) provides layout tools for intelligent placement of parts and automatic placement of components. It also allows users to create and manage specification/function -driven physical designs of raceway and conduit systems, using industry standard conventions, terminology, and practices. The product includes a raceway and conduit design parametric parts catalog. It is integrated with electrical cable routing, through the defined Raceway and Conduit network, to provide an intelligent layout that captures design information. Integration with a design rules engine allows automation of the design process, and guarantees compliance with company standards. The captured design information and intelligence can be queried, extracted and reused for downstream processes In conjunction with PDM, RCD gives users the power to manage their systems, from initial design to ship or IES/Plant operations, in a way that is easily adapted to how the customer works.

Product Highlights

  • Enables "smart" object modeling, customization and modification of raceway and conduit objects and routes.
  • Physical network connectivity management and design layout evolution.
  • Specification-driven raceway and conduit parts and line creation, layout route definition and management.
  • Provides user-defined ID rules for objects and integrated dynamic rule triggering.
  • Powerful setup and query/search tools for raceway and conduit parts and configurations

Product Key Customer Benefits

Intelligent "Smart" object modeling and customization... CATIA - Raceway & Conduit Design 2 (RCD) provides a base object model to implement raceway and conduit network behaviors, relationships and attributes. It allows the user to customize the object model by providing the ability to define sub-classes and add attributes.
User-defined ID rules for objects ... Designers define ID rules to specify their company-specific naming formats and conventions, by object type. Additionally, ID rules are assigned to individual classes of objects, and when such objects are created by the user, IDs are generated automatically using user-defined rules.
Raceway and conduit line creation and management... Users can create raceway and conduit lines with standard industry attribute information. Designers can create their own attributes to be included on raceway and conduit line definitions. The line definitions are shared across multiple design documents to ensure design consistency. The product provides the ability to intelligently manage the entire membership of a raceway and conduit line, regardless of whether components are added or removed during the design process. Lines can be easily renamed, deleted or modified.
Raceway and conduit line layout route definition... The RCD product provides easy-to-use routing tools that allow the user to define a space claim in the preliminary design stage. This allows users to perform interference detection and uncover space contention, early on. Routing tools are integrated with spatial definitions, allowing the designer to easily route raceways and conduit lines inside a pathway. Associativity is maintained, ensuring that if a pathway is modified, the raceway and conduit line will be adjusted automatically.
Design layout evolution... Preliminary layouts can evolve to detailed designs using standard raceway and conduit parts and specification catalogs. Using this methodology, designers can progress to the final layout stage with greater speed and accuracy.
Specification-driven raceway and conduit part selection... Users can create parts from the catalog using specifications that are defined for a certain project to meet a specific context. Raceway (cable tray) system parts are specified as rigid materials, whereas conduit parts are specified as either rigid or flexible materials.
Intelligent modification of raceway and conduit objects and routes... Designers can revise layouts and change route segments and nodes using offset and clearance capabilities. Raceway and conduit parts and routes can be manipulated on the fly. Raceway and conduit part modifications propagate changes that will impact the design intent. For example, a cable size change can be propagated to trigger part re-sizing and placement. Specification changes will force new part selection and placement. Connectivity is managed automatically, throughout the entire modification process.
Integrated dynamic rule triggering ... During the preliminary and detailed design process, rule-based design checking actions are automatically launched to validate the proposed design. For example, when a raceway and conduit design route is defined, and then modified, a rule is triggered to analyze the maximum and minimum length. If raceway and conduit parts are placed and then changed, rules are activated to confirm connectivity and compatibility.
Query/Search of raceway and conduit parts and configurations ... Object properties are available to the user at element pre-highlight. Users can perform a wide variety of queries and/or analyses to inquire about properties of any object in the design document. This includes searching for objects in the design model, based on object class hierarchy and attributes. Through a network analysis tool, designers also can also query and analyze raceway and conduit line connectivity. Designers can browse through a raceway and conduit parts catalog and search by catalog hierarchy, raceway and conduit symbol geometry, or raceway and conduit part technology.
Powerful setup tools ... Setup tools allow users to customize corporate data and define rules to enforce company standards, such as defining raceway and conduit specifications, standard parametric parts catalogs, design rules, and other data.
