The objective is to offer new benefits to CATIA V5 PLM users in CFD. We propose a tight integration of CFD within the CATIA 5 PLM-environment enabling easier parametric design studies to be carried out with enhanced automation and bi-directional associativity between CAD and CFD models.

STAR-CAT5 enables engineers to manage flow and thermal problems from the comfort of their CATIA V5 PLM-environment. This approach delivers a number of compelling benefits over the traditional simulation process:

• Designers and analysts are not required to learn a specialist simulation package,
• Associativity with parametric CAD models allows easy modification of parts without the need to redefine units, materials or boundary conditions, saving time and improving productivity.
• The simulation is directly associated with the geometry, enabling interactive as well as  automated parametric what-if design evaluations for optimisation
• A unique and proven technology, the polyhedral cells, brings speed, more accuracy and solution stability for CFD simulations than any other tetrahedral model.

The STAR-CAT5 intends to equip CATIA V5 users with the insight to deliver products to market faster, while improving quality and bringing innovation that matters. The problem set-up and input/output requirements have been automated and integrated into the CATIA V5 PLM-environment, so that users can concentrate on evaluating engineering results and optimizing designs and take full advantage of CD-adapco's advanced simulation technology.
