MAHLE is an international leading development partner of the automobile and engine industry.

The Challenge

To decrease both engine size by 50%, and fuel consumption by 30%.

Dassault Systèmes Response

Meet technical challenges of high specific output engine: robust combustion system, good low-speed torque and transient response, real-world fuel consumption benefits, engine robustness and durability. Guide, validate, and optimize design using finite element analysis. Retain concept approach based on mass production techniques and capabilities.

Benefits

Designed and manufactured a 1.2l I3 twin turbo engine producing power and torque equivalent to a normally aspirated 2.4l V6 engine. Concept level demonstration engines such as this are used to test systems, new component designs, fuel and oil. Mass production ability ensures future generations of environmentally healthy and fuel efficient vehicles.
